#Climbing and #Safety: A Challenge We Must Face Together 🧗♀️⚠️ At Lizcore® System, as climbing professionals, we are aware of the risks that this sport entails. While auto belay systems allow us to climb independently, it is crucial to remember that safety is paramount. Although auto belay technology has advanced, with safer devices and intrusive measures like safety triangles to prevent climbers from climbing without being tied in, accidents still occur. Every year there are more incidents, and not due to device failures, but due to human error (climbing without tying in, incorrectly attaching the carabiner, falling on top of other climbers, swinging into structures or other climbers...). The increase in the volume of climbers does not help to curb these accidents. In a small survey we conducted in Germany and Spain, we discovered that one or two accidents occur in each climbing gym per year. And this is a serious problem! ⚠️ As #climbers, #routesetters, and #climbing_gym managers, we have a responsibility to find solutions. Current measures, such as safety triangles, are not enough. People break the rules, tie in incorrectly, fall on top of others... Accidents continue to happen. 😔 With the growth of climbing, concern increases. In 2024, in Germany and Spain alone, there were 9 serious accidents published. If the trend continues, there will be more each year. We can't allow this. At Lizcore® System, we have been working on a solution for 3 years. This 2025, we are launching a new safety system for auto belays that goes beyond triangles and rectangles. An electronic system with an alarm that warns the climber if they are climbing without being tied in or incorrectly tied in, and that informs the manager of the status of the devices.
