Code for Life partnered with our in-house robotics team at Ocado Technology this week to celebrate #AdaLovelaceDay. Just a few weeks earlier, we were inspired at a Women in Tech event, where the motivational Michelle Griffith Robinson OLY urged us to seize the moment and build our tribes. Taking her words to heart, we decided to organise this special event in record time, with only a few weeks to plan and execute. We invited some of Ocado’s talented women to share their expertise, focusing on public speaking tips and techniques. Our line-up of incredible speakers included Myrna Macgregor, Christina Georgiou, Alice Lu, and Jazmin Hempenstall, with Meera Tom as our host, alongside our very own Laura Cumming and Florian Aucomte. The event pulled in a full house, and colleagues from our global development centres joined remotely to learn how to enhance their public speaking skills. Code for Life's mission extends beyond coding, and we wanted to link this event with volunteering. We regularly visit schools to talk about careers in robotics and technology, aiming to inspire more girls to explore tech roles. By bringing real role models into classrooms through talks and workshops, we provide students with valuable insights while offering our Ocado Group colleagues opportunities to practise their presentation skills and adapt their communication to diverse audiences. It’s a win-win situation – and great fun for everyone involved! We managed to persuade a few of our colleagues that day to join us on our upcoming events, so keep a look out for how they get involved over the coming months. Our second Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) for Coles Group in Australia has officially opened 👏 Coles CEO Leah Weckert: "Today's launch marks a significant transformation of our online grocery delivery service for New South Wales. Across Victoria and New South Wales, we have already delivered more than 120,000 orders, the equivalent of 5.5 million products, with our customers getting near perfect orders with zero substitutions. Working with people all over the world is one of the things I value most about my role. Delivering large automation projects across the globe is an exciting challenge and requires joint efforts from Ocado teams, our partners and our suppliers. The tight working relationships we build as we roll out our technology means it’s even more special when we get to come together to celebrate our joint successes in person. The last couple of weeks have been particularly exciting; as well as a trip to the USA to visit our friends at Kroger, I was lucky enough to attend the Coles CFC opening ceremony in Melbourne. It makes me proud to see the efforts of all the teams at Ocado Technology pay off when we hit these important milestones with our partners. With two CFCs now live in Australia, our global footprint is expanding ever further and helping more partners offer a top tier experience for their shoppers and run the tightest operations. None of this would have been possible without Ocado Technology’s incredible development and operational teams and all the other teams from across the business who support the roll out of the Ocado Smart Platform around the world.
