The Teatro Real de Madrid, one of Spain’s most iconic cultural institutions, has taken a significant step toward sustainability with the installation of walkable photovoltaic glass on its rooftop. This innovative system not only generates clean energy but also transforms former gravel-covered areas into accessible terraces for events and special gatherings. With over 1,200 m² of photovoltaic flooring and more than 2,000 units installed, this project demonstrates that renewable energy can seamlessly integrate into historic sites without compromising their architectural significance. As a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC), the Teatro Real required a balance between technological innovation and heritage preservation, which has been key to the project's success. We want to express our special gratitude to Nuria G. (Infrastructure Director of Teatro Real) for her trust from the very beginning and for her dedication and perseverance in turning a complex project into a success for both the Teatro Real and herself.
