About Yesterday at ASCAME #MedaWeek2024! Antonella Autino and DR. Mohamed Ahmed Wageih took the stage in the Innovation Agri-Food session at ASCAME’s MedaWeek 2024 in Barcelona, joined by Jordi Ciuraneta and Andre Andrelaperriere. Their discussion centered on the transformative role of #digital #technologies, #Blockchain, and AI for #food #safety and #traceability. 🌐 🎙️In this session moderated by DR. Mohamed Ahmed Wageih, Antonella Autino highlighted how PRIMA empowers farmers, merging advanced tech with traditional methods to drive progress. Jordi Ciuraneta shared his insights on blending innovation with daily farming practices, while Andre Andrelaperriere spoke on open data's pivotal role in sustainable agriculture and food security. This event also provided a platform to voice up FUTURE4PRIMA , our Horizon Europe project that ensures PRIMA’s long-term impact in the upcoming EU Framework Programme, focusing on sustainable partnerships to address Mediterranean challenges. Finally, the #SFSMED Platform took the spotlight for its contributions toward transforming food systems in line with UN 2030 goals, emphasizing resilience and sustainable practices across the Mediterranean. 🌱
📍 MEDAWEEK BARCELONA 2024 I The ‘Mediterranean Food Industry Platform’ showed the region’s diverse culinary heritage and examined how innovation is driving growth and sustainability in the food sector. We share the main insights from the three key topics debated in this session: ✅ Agrofood Industry: 🔸 The agro-food industry is evolving rapidly. Innovations in areas like organic products and agritech are shaping its future. This industry refers to the sector that encompasses the production, processing, and distribution of food and agricultural products. 🔸 Main investment opportunities: organic products and innovations in agritech and food tech are promising areas within the agro-food industry. 🔸 Technology can help reduce costs, improve crop yields, and mitigate environmental impact (reducing emissions, absorbing CO2, and reducing water consumption). 🔸 Public-private collaboration and cooperation between countries is key to ensuring food safety and improving traceability. ✅ Halal industry: 🔸 Halal meat, poultry, and seafood constitute almost 50% of total global market sales. This industry is expanding into Non-Muslim markets: the rising Muslim population in non-Islamic countries has led food and beverage businesses to start their halal product lines. In addition, halal food is becoming synonymous with healthy food. 🔸 This industry faces two major challenges. On the one hand, the fragmentation of the market from a regulatory point of view: there are different norms and standards in each country. This is a problem for producers who are not from Muslim-majority countries. On the other hand, they are products that lack a modern marketing or branding strategy. It is often associated with low-quality products or groups with low purchasing power when the opposite is true. ✅ Mediterranean Diet: 🔸 "It is distinguished by fresh, local, and seasonal products. Healthy eating model that promotes well-being. It also has an impact on the economy, especially the local and rural economy, and promotes a sustainable economy". 🔸 Proven health benefits of the Mediterranean diet: It reduces the risk of diabetes by up to 30%, improves arterial lesions, has a positive impact on Alzheimer's disease, and improves cardiovascular diseases. In addition, it reduces the probability of stroke by up to 50% and reduces overall mortality.

#PRIMAprojectday #PRIMAfamily 🌟 A heartfelt thank you to all the participants of our Project Day 2024, who made this event a success! 🌟 Synergies at the Core 🤝 Over the course of two dynamic days, synergies and connections were at the heart of discussions. From National Funding Agencies engaging with projects, to coordinators meeting the PRIMA team, SAC members connecting with project representatives, and most importantly, projects discovering opportunities to co-create and collaborate with one another. Celebrating new beginnings 🎉 These two day were also about celebration—welcoming new projects into the ever-growing #PRIMAfamily. We were also honored by the presence of the Bulgarian representative, as Bulgaria has officially joined our program, bringing the total to 20 member countries 🌍, with the continued support of the European Union. No Use, No Impact 🎯 One of our key objectives was to ensure that projects talked to projects. After all, who is better equipped to share insights into a PRIMA project than another project itself? We were thrilled to receive hand-on experiences shared by the projects SUREFISH and Sustainolive and representatives Marco de La feld and Alejandro Gallego. They provided key solutions and practical tools 🛠️ for distinguishing communication, dissemination, and exploitation—and how to effectively plan actions in each area. Their presentations were complemented by Andrea Di Anselmo from META Group, who delivered a great talk on maximizing the use of project results. SPEAK UP! 🎤 A massive congratulations to all the coordinators who poured their heart and soul into the (sometimes difficult!) challenge of pitching their project in just 2 minutes ⏱️ Special applause goes to Antonio Padovano (CERERE Project), Vincent Nicolas (@3D-STELLAR), and Georgios Kleftodimos (DYONISUS), who won the best pitch awards🏆👏 Creativity, Innovation & Art 🎨✨ The day wasn't just about science and innovation—it also celebrated creativity and art. We were fortunate to be part of a beautiful collaboration with the PRIMA NEXUS–NESS Project, which brought together young artists, scientists, and educators to create #NexusArt. This extraordinary work traveled all the way to Barcelona 🌍 and was shared with PRIMA coordinators, hosted in Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. A special thanks to Fernando Nardi for leading this initiative. 🙏 Antonella Autino Octavi Quintana Omar Amawi Fabrice Dentressangle Marco Orlando Eda Demir Ali Rhouma DR. #PRIMAprojectday: Let the projects shine! 🌟 🎉 We’re excited to kick off our pitching session: Project coordinators will have just 2 minutes to present their vision and their project. This format encourages creative thinking and offers a fresh perspective on presenting ideas. The pitching exercise promotes clear and compelling communication, allowing teams to speak up for their projects to the essentials. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to identify synergies and gather valuable feedback from peers. Bravo to all the coordinators who participated in the challenge!
