Our DynamoDB Connector is now available in GA! Carl-Einar Thorner and his team at Zembula were great partners in providing feedback for our DynamoDB Connector. With the connector, Tinybird extends the capabilities of DynamoDB enabling aggregations and complex queries fast and in real time. Check it out! -> https://lnkd.in/ejD2aBjn

Changelogs are boring 🥱 You could read ours (https://tbrd.co/changelog) or you could watch this video - featuring Patrick Druley, Joseph Krawiec, and David Margulies - and see all the 🔥 new things we've been building irl. h/t April Schuppel for the great edit. Have a great weekend. 👋

The DynamoDB Connector has been one of our greatest product launches this year. This is the connector architecture you can expect in order to send data to Tinybird. - DynamoDB Streams captures change events for a given DynamoDB table and provides an API to access events as a stream. This allows CDC-like access to the table for continuous updates. - You can use Point-in-time recovery (PITR) to take snapshots of your DynamoDB table and save the export to S3. This allows historical access to table data for batch uploads. You can find more information here about the connector: https://lnkd.in/dCNx_uNb #tinybird #realtimeanalytics #olap #oltp #dynamodb #aws Tinybird

I'm thrilled to share that I've joined Tinybird as their VP of Talent Acquisition! This opportunity allows me to return to my roots and leverage my experiences to build a talent acquisition function from the ground up once again. The best part? I get to stay closely connected to the tech I love, minus the steep learning curve! We’re on the lookout for new talent—come join our flock! #Hiring :) On a personal note, I’ve always believed that a company’s greatest asset is its people, but for recruiters, the true treasure lies in our networks. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to brainstorm, offer advice, or simply catch up. From road trips to busy workdays and parenting moments, your support means the world to me. Thank you!

Thank you Plain for the love. Yes, our support team really is great. 👏👏👏
Humans of Support 0️⃣2️⃣9️⃣ Behind every support ticket is a person. Every Friday, we feature someone in support who inspires us. Today, we're featuring Jesús Hernández, one of our very own engineers here at Plain. We take a whole-company approach to support, and we’re excited to share a slightly different perspective on how a non-customer support employee approaches support. Here’s his take 👇 ✨ What's your favorite thing about being on our support rota? There are a few. You get to understand the impact of the decisions you made when you built each of the features, for the good but also when they don't work as you expected. This is key for every product engineer who has ever had to model complex systems. While you’re on the support rota, you also get to talk to lots of interesting folks – not just technical folks, but across all disciplines. This allows us to understand what made them come to us and what will make them stay with us. You can (and should!) use these conversations to help you shape your product roadmap. 💭 What have you learned about what it's like to work in support? Technical support is a full time job. A typical mistake (which we’ve made before) is to treat it as a side task. As the company grows, problems grow - and their complexity. Being laser-focused on support raises the quality bar and helps your colleagues, too. They know what to expect from you during your rota, so they won’t be unnecessarily blocked. ✏️ What’s your tip for prioritizing when everything seems urgent? At Plain, we’re obsessed with security and reliability: all customer data is confidential and no customer message should be lost. Any indication of an issue in these areas is a P0 for us. What I mean is, you need to be very clear on where your product sits within your customer’s organization and what they expect from you. This little framework can guide you when you are flooded with support requests and you need a way to effectively distill them. Of course, everything we’re building at Plain also aligns with this. From structured support requests to an array of tools that help you respond to your customers reliably and in a timely manner. 🥇 What company has recently really impressed you with the quality of their support? AWS - just kidding! A support team that stands out to me is Tinybird’s. They quickly bring someone technical to the conversation and they will go to great lengths to ensure not only that your problem is solved but also that you understand why it happened.

DynamoDB is bad at aggregates, complex filters, and search. We tackled that first struggle (aggregations) in a blog post, outlining some simple patterns to move data out of DynamoDB to perform aggregations in real-time or in batch, depending on your use case. tbrd.co/ddb-agg #DynamoDB #DataAnalytics #RealTimeAnalytics #AWS

Thinking about adding an "Analytics" tab to your SaaS app? Good thinking. But what if you took it a step further? Don't stop at just a page or tab. Instead, weave data throughout your user experience. That's the approach Matt Vagni and his team at Plain have taken. They use Tinybird to capture real-time support data, query and shape it with SQL, and publish their queries as real-time data APIs they can integrate through their application. Because they use Tinybird, they can put analytics anywhere, focusing less on infra and more on their core remit: building the best support platform for technical teams. We've cherry-picked some of Matt's finest quotes about their use case. If you want to read more about their experience and why they chose Tinybird, go here: tbrd.co/plain #RealTimeAnalytics #SaaS #CustomerStory #AnalyticsAnywhere

DynamoDB doesn't do aggregations. There are no COUNTs, SUMs, AVGs, or GROUP BYs. When you need to aggregate data in DynamoDB tables for analytics use cases, you need to move the data somewhere else. There are a few ways you can do this: 1. Copy your DDB table to Redshift and run ad hoc SQL queries 2. Something similar but with Hive on EMR 3. Use Lambda to calculate aggregates and put them back in DDB 4. Use Tinybird as a secondary index to calculate aggregates in real-time We've outlined these 4 approaches - when to use them, pros and cons, and additional resources for each one - in our most recent blog post.
