🌍🔥 IMPORTANT UPDATE ON FOREST FIRES AND DISASTER PREPARATIONS 🔥🌪️  On October 8, 2024, the National Multinational Coordination Group (NMAC) has raised the National Preparedness Level (PL) to 5, the highest level on the scale. This is a crucial reminder of the severity of the forest fire season, as it is only the second time in October that we have reached this critical level. Currently, there are 29 active fires in seven states in USA, destroying more than 1,249,000 acres. With approximately 12,000 brave firefighters and support staff in action, it is essential that we all remain alert and support their efforts. Although fire activity is below the average of the last decade, the situation remains serious. In addition, Hurricane Milton is heading towards the west coast of Florida, bringing with it extreme weather conditions and the risk of significant flooding. At Titan firefighting, we are committed to prevention and protection in these challenging times. It is essential that we are all informed and well prepared.   Remember: Prevention is key. Favorable Weather and Community Efforts Reduce Forest Fires in 2024 👏🏼 The number of forest fires in Spain has significantly decreased in 2024, thanks to favorable weather conditions and community collaboration. According to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the area burned by forest fires up to August 25th is 46.4% less than the same period last year and 46.5% below the decade’s average. A total of 42,314 hectares have burned so far, compared to 78,852 hectares in 2023. The number of fire incidents has also dropped by 35.6%, with 4,742 incidents recorded this year compared to an average of 7,359 over the last decade. The majority of the affected areas are in the interior regions of the country, followed by the northwest and Mediterranean areas. Only 16 large fires, burning more than 500 hectares each, have occurred, making 2024 one of the least extensive fire seasons in the last 13 years1.📉📊 More info: https://lnkd.in/eRNEyF9q

The wildfires in Madeira continue to be a significant challenge. Despite the efforts of the Canadair planes, the fire remains active in several areas of the island. Since August 14th, the fire has consumed around 5,000 hectares, which is equivalent to 14% of the island’s forests 🌲🔥. Spain has sent two Canadair planes from Málaga, manned by the 43rd Air Force Group, to help extinguish the fire ✈️💧. These planes are performing water drops from their base in Porto Santo, aiming to control the flames in the central mountains of Madeira. More than 125 operatives, including firefighters from Madeira and the Azores, are working tirelessly to combat the fire 🚒👩🚒.
