🚀 Exciting news! The first experiments using the WASTELESS Blockchain—designed by our project partner, WIISE—have begun! 🌱 Salumificio Mottolini Srl, a producer of the famous low-fat bresaola, is the first company to test this tool, aimed at measuring and monitoring food waste within sector companies. The blockchain helps report data based on current regulations and standards, such as the FLW Standard. 👩💼 Dr. Luisa Pezzini, head of quality at Mottolini, with the support of her team, completed the survey with data stored securely on the blockchain. The tool records vital information, from raw materials to by-products and waste streams. Key insights include: 🌾 Reasons for generating side streams and their intended uses ♻️ Breakdown of destinations based on the Waste Hierarchy, including reuse, recycling, recovery, and disposal. Dr. Pezzini praised the support from WIISE's team and provided feedback to further improve the tool, emphasizing the potential for growth with specific training in food waste management. 💡 Read the blog article: https://ow.ly/NSuT50THArG For more on blockchain technology and food waste management, check out the articles on the Community of Practice (CoP) and Great Italian Food Trade (GIFT) platforms. #WASTELESS #FoodWasteReduction #Blockchain #Sustainability #FoodIndustry #Bresaola #CircularEconomy #FLWStandard #FoodTech #WasteHierarchy #SmartTools #FLW #FLWSisters

The discussion continues on the consumer’s side with the panel: ‘Reducing consumer food waste, challenges and opportunities’ 🤔 Betty Chang our Research Area Lead has brought EUFIC’s insights on the narratives that influence consumers’ behaviours, like social norms and cultural values. However, companies, HoReCa and governments are equally responsible for how messages are crafted and shared ❗ To explore new ‘entry points’ for change that haven't yet been considered we also listen to Anja Katalin De Cunto from C40 Cities, Dr Richard Swannell FRSA, Director of WRAP, Sanne Stroosnijder on behalf of Wageningen University & Research, Sophie Attwood, Founder & Director of Behaviour Global and Stephane Leroux, Executive Director of International Food Waste Coalition (IFWC). The moderator of this panel was Gyula Kasza, founder of the Wasteless Foundation, who established the Hungarian National Food Waste Prevention Programme. ❇It was great to learn how food waste solutions can be a win-win for other #FoodSystems related problems. Many thanks to FAO for this opportunity! #HU24EU
