Learning, networking, and a lot of disruptive projects at the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit! 💡 Our highlight: the presentation that the 11 Catalan R+D+i Networks co-organized to introduce many success stories within our network, such as Muvity's. This gamified telerehabilitation system has had the support of the TECSAM Network & Xartec Salut in many areas, such as mentoring, training and public showcasing opportunities, and they were able to explain their story! It was also a pleasure to visit the stand of Virmedex, a spin-off led by our researcher Dani Tost. Congratulations to Barcelona Activa and special thanks to our fellow R+D+i networks: Xartec Salut, i4KIDS I i4KIDS-EUROPE, XaRFA, Xarxa AccessCat, #XarSMART, X4HPC , Xarxa X_AgriTech, H2CAT and Xarxa RDI-IA. #barcelonadeeptechsummit #deeptech #BDTS24 #xarxesrdi Gemma Hernández

🚸"You will get over it"🚸 UNICEF España hosted an event with this title to raise awareness on children and adolescents needs regarding mental health to commemorate World Mental Health Day. Two young members of UNICEF advisory group, Alae and José Ángel, asked questions and shared experiences with Javier Padilla, José María (Chema) Vera, Vicente Cancio and Montserrat Graell Berna. Some highlights of the conversation included: 🗨 reflecting on the social and familiar pressure teenagers report 🗨 the shared preoccupation regarding addictions 🗨 the perceived lack of school resources to face mental health doubts and consultations 🗨 the ongoing stigma of mental health 🗨 the lack of support youth perceive not only for their own struggles, but also when family members get mental health diagnosis 🗨 the importance of delivering specific care for the disabled ⚡ UNICEF also shared some data from their recent study on youth mental health with Universidad de Sevilla: 4 out of 10 children feel they had a mental health issue in the last year, and 40% of them believe that schools and educational settings are not “protecting environments” for them. More information on the study: https://lnkd.in/eQzM7gyK A special "thank you" to Leticia González Castellanos for hosting and inviting us. Let's keep on collaborating! ☀ #UNICEF #mentalhealth #worldmentalhealthday #children #youth

⚡🔗𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡? According to the researcher Cláudia de Freitas, cocreation in research means aspiring to open participation not only in creating knowledge but also in the planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions, services, or policies. In the mental health research field, this means researchers and professionals sharing power and responsibility with other key participants, specially people with mental health problems. De Freitas shared powerful insights on cocreation in mental health research during the opening session at Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu Mental Health Research Day: 🟢Cocreation is relational and intensive: interpersonal and methodological skills and time and pressure managing are key 🟢It can lead to conflict and unresolved challenges, so it requires continuous monitoring and creation of safe spaces for partners to express doubts and concerns 🟢Resorting to equity and solidarity can be helpful: allocate resources where there are more need. Sometimes the non academics are not the ones who need extra help! 🟢Funding agencies need to rethink proposal requirements to offer flexibility and allow changes after engagement, a must when cocreating 🟢Similarly, 2 or 3 years per project are not enough, it is a labor-intensive experience & you need to build up a community and keep on involving them 🟢It is a long term investment, the relationship with the community and actors need to be one of trust 🟢 Growing towards a common goal may make everyone more open to collaborate 🟢More evidence is needed, but we already have some data on its effectiveness: it increases research inclusiveness, enhances interventions' responsiveness, improves services quality and improves participants' health outcomes The session had other amazing speeches and round tables, which included the participation of many members of the TECSAM Network: - Paula Cristóbal Narváez shared many insights on the Migrasalut project and highlighted the importance of how culture shapes our interpretation of health and wellbeing - Victoria Espinosa Lorenzo talked about maternity and psychosis, and the lack of specific interventions to this population - Leila Alba shared data on home care as an alternative to hospitalization for mental health crisis - Guillem Feixas showcased EYME, a VR tool for psychotherapy - Juan P. Sanabria Mazo tackled new technologies and chronic pain - Researchers Josep Maria Haro , Susana Ochoa, Montserrat Dolz Abadia, Andrea Miranda Mendizabal and Helena Sainz Elias also participated as speakers or moderators. 📼Watch it again here: https://lnkd.in/ejsMAvSV #mentalhealth #research #innovation #cocreation

6️⃣ 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 Key takeaways from the conversation between José Ibeas, Director of the Health/AI Program in Generalitat de Catalunya and Gemma Piella, Full Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona and Principal Investigator, at #healthtech2030👇 🟢AI means having the ability to process and analyse lots of data from very different sources (including social media, our voices or the data collected by smartwatches) and get useful predictions, insights or conclusions 🟢Explainability is a must: we need to be able to explain the contribution of each of the inputs to the output or final conclusion or prediction. This is specially relevant for the professional using the tool, since AI is not infallible, and this allows the user to correct and verify 🟢Thus, AI is a tool, but it can not substitute the physician 🟢 Healthcare professionals need to work together with engineers and policymakers to create reliable tools to be used in clinical practices 🟢If we feed AI with biased data, results will be biased. We need more variety in the data, otherwise, conclusions are only going to be valid for a specific demographic. In this sense, participation of end user is paramount to create better algorithms. 🟢Transparency is also a requisite: patients and users need to be aware that AI is being used and need to consent to it It was a pleasure to co-organize this crowded session (+50 attendees) together with Xartec Salut and Xarxa RDI-IA on the 10th of October, commemorating World's Mental Health Day. It all happened within #HealthTech2030, an event led by Xartec Salut which explores emerging opportunities and challenges regarding health innovation and technologies that gathered more than 300 innovators in the field of health tech. 👏 A big thank you for the organization and for having us 👏 #mentalhealth #ai #Innovation #Technology #techtransfer #worldsmentalhealthday
