About us

Imagine1day is a humanitarian and development organization exclusively operating in Ethiopia on Education, Child Protection and Gender Based Violence (GBV), Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) as well as Transformational Leadership. Since its inception, Imagine1day has created access to quality education for over 500,000+ children annually including 186,570 primary-age out-of-school children in Ethiopia and dramatically improved the quality of education, community engagement, and government leadership across ten regions and 1,105 schools.

  • Imagine1day hosted #ECHO Project Programmatic Visit in Kiltu Kara District of West Wellega Zone Oromia region, Ethiopia. ‎Participants included representatives from UNICEF Ethiopia, #Imagine1day country and Oromia field offices, as well as Zone Education Office and District Education Office focal points. ‎The monitoring focused on thematic programmatic activities implemented under ECHO project consists of harmonized Socio Emotional Learning & life skill education, gender club and community based Menstrual Hygiene Management initiative, material provisions, Inclusive education, Imagine1day approach to children with disability screening, assessment and documentation were major areas of the visit. What is more, extensive focus group discussion maintained with selected gender club member and leader, students, trained teachers, Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and principal about the impact of interventions.

  • Imagine1day, in collaboration with school communities, kebele officials, and parents, conducted a back-to-school campaign for primary school students across five intervention sites in the Liben District of East Borana Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia. This initiative, part of the #EU-funded UNICEF Ethiopia Year II project aimed at restoring education services to conflict-affected children, has brought about significant positive changes in both the community and student outcomes. During the campaign, students, parents, Parent-Teacher-Student Associations (PTSAs), and kebele officials gathered to celebrate the achievements of top-ranking students (1st to 3rd place) across all grades, as well as the top 1-3 girls, who were motivated and awarded for their academic excellence. The community expressed great happiness and gained valuable insights from the school director’s report on student progress, including the success of the Accelerated Education Program.

  • Imagine1day celebrated International Women’s Day throughout the week across its intervention regions in Ethiopia, with the theme: "For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment." This event was a significant milestone for the organization, as it not only raised awareness about crucial gender-related issues but also received recognition certificates in honor of its invaluable contributions to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in the regions. Central to the celebration were 5km run, panel discussions and awareness-raising sessions focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), addressing critical topics such as prevention, mitigation, and response strategies. The discussions provided a platform for deepening understanding of GBV and its impact, while empowering participants with the knowledge and tools to take action within their communities. The event drew a remarkable turnout, with participants coming together to engage in the conversation and benefit from the valuable information shared. #InternationalWomen’sDay

  • Strengthening Education and Social Support in Afar! ------ Imagine1day, in collaboration with UNICEF Ethiopia, successfully completed the #KFW Project Programmatic Monitoring from March 11-13, 2025, in the Amibara district of Afar region, #Ethiopia. The event brought together education specialists from UNICEF's head and Afar field offices, #Imagine1day staff from the Afar region office, and representatives from the district's #Education Office and Women and Social Affairs Office. The visit commenced with a comprehensive briefing on the project's progress, followed by visits to the school and Accelerated Education Program (AEP) centers. Key focus areas included: AEP learning outcomes, Life skills development, Gender clubs and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). The team engaged with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA), AEP-certified children, recipients of assistive devices, and representatives from local education and social affairs offices. These discussions ensured the project’s impact was aligned with the community's educational and social needs.

  • As part of the FCDO-funded UNICEF Ethiopia project Imagine1day has been implementing, Imagine1day hosted a Joint Monitoring and Evaluation visit at Gute Primary School in Wayu Tuka District, of Oromia region, Ethiopia. The delegation included representatives from Oromia education bureau, Zonal education & administration office, disaster Risk Management Office (DRMO), zonal finance office, zonal women & children office district education & administration office, Imagine1day country & regional office teams as well as Inclusive Humanitarian Organization (IHO). During the visit, guests observed the progress in Accelerated Education Program (AEP) for ages 8-10 & 11-14, pre-primary classes and gender club activities.   • Children with special needs at Meskel Kibra Primary School in Lalibela, Amhara Region, Ethiopia, are flourishing in the newly enhanced Inclusive Education Resource Center (IERC). This initiative is part of a broader EU-funded UNICEF Ethiopia project, implemented by #Imagine1day. The IERC has been fully equipped with: ✅ Assistive devices and Braille paper ✅ Desktop computer and smart TV ✅ Printer, shelves, tables, and chairs ✅ Recreational and ECD kits ✅ Vibrant classroom colors and interactive wall drawings ✅ A mat covering the entire room ✅ A newly constructed walkway and ramp This transformation is making education more inclusive, engaging, and empowering for children with disabilities at Meskel Kibra and neighboring schools.

  • On March 5, 2025, Imagine1day hosted a donor visit led by the EU Ambassador. The delegation included the Head of the Tigray Education Bureau, as well as the Education and Protection Chiefs from UNICEF Ethiopia, along with their respective teams. The group toured the joint EU-UNICEF-Imagine1day projects at Sele Primary School in the Tanqua Milash district and Gelebeda Primary School in the Qeyih Tekli district. During the visit, the UNICEF Education Chief and his team observed the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) classes, while the Protection Chief and her team conducted a thorough inspection of the case management rooms at both schools. The school principals provided an overview of the initiatives that Imagine1day, in collaboration with the EU and UNICEF, is implementing in the areas of education, protection, and life skills. At the end of the visit, Imagine1day was presented with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of its exceptional achievements.

    Imagine1day is a leading organization dedicated to addressing learning poverty in Ethiopia. In collaboration with the Costa Foundation, the organization is piloting the Teaching at the Right Level Africa (TaRL) approach in the Gedio Zone of Southern Ethiopia. The #TaRL Teachers and Mentors Training officially commenced on Sunday, March 2, 2025, in the presence of the Gedio Zone Education Department. The training has been progressing smoothly, demonstrating strong commitment and active engagement from both Master Trainers and trainees. Designed to span eight days, the program aims to equip teachers with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for the effective implementation of the TaRL approach, which seeks to enhance learning outcomes for students across the region.
