A novel study from the University of Helsinki confirms the biological significance of regions identified by artificial intelligence in ovarian cancer tissue images. This might be the first time, that AI has been published to find biomarkers related to cancer treatment outcomes based on histology. A research team used Aiforia® Create to develop an AI model that was able to predict how a patient with a particular ovarian cancer would respond to chemotherapy based on images of tissue samples. AI model uses only parts of the tumor to predict, and these areas are not distinguishable to the human eye. Congratulations Anna Laury & al. on the release of this groundbreaking study “Opening the black box: spatial transcriptomics and the relevance of AI-detected prognostic regions in high grade serous carcinoma” and Anna for successfully defending her thesis on Friday!
