  • We had a packed house to celebrate Anne Raudaskoski's new book, Circular Strategies for Success, and what an inspiring evening it was! Many thanks to our brilliant panelists - Barry Waddilove, Olli Kuismanen, Malva Carlsson and Jean Christophe Almira - for sharing their insights, and to Suvi Koivusalo for guiding the conversation so thoughtfully. The panel was also filmed and is now available on our youtube channel 🎬 (Link in comments) Given that thousands of business books are published every year, Anne was asked why people should read this book. "What makes Circular Strategies for Success different is that it does not just focus on the business itself. The book connects the internal and the external, providing insights, stories, cases, facts and figures, and hope about how to do business within planetary boundaries." We are grateful to everyone who has joined us in discussing the future of circularity in business. Let's keep the momentum going! #circularstrategiesforsuccess #circulareconomy #circulardesign #circularfuture

Another inspiring live workshop with a wonderful group! 🎉 💪 Yesterday we gathered in Helsinki for the fourth workshop of the programme. The Executive Track focused on Circular Transition, while the R&D Track explored Circular Prototyping & Testing methods. We had lively discussions about the challenges of the circular transition and the importance of embedding circular knowledge throughout an organisation - starting with the leadership. That's why this programme is designed to empower participants as change agents, giving them the tools and understanding they need to drive real change. As the programme nears its conclusion, participating companies are fully immersed in refining their circular concepts. Next up is an online session, followed by our final gathering in Stockholm this May, where companies will present their concepts and key insights from this eight-month journey. Exciting times ahead!👀 💡 Ethica Finland Norwegian Centre of Circular Economy (NCCE) DDC – Dansk Design Center Cradlenet Nordic Innovation #NordicCircularDesignProgramme #CircularEconomy #CircularDesign #Sustainability #NordicCollaboration

The concept of circular economy has historical roots dating back thousands of years. Early societies, such as the inhabitants of present-day Poland 30,000 years ago, repurposed mammoth bones for tools, while the Indus Valley Civilization (5,000 years ago) exhibited advanced resource management by recycling pottery and artifacts. These practices reflect an inherent understanding of sustainability. However, with the rise of the linear "take-make-dispose" model, circularity faded over time. It wasn’t until the late 20th and early 21st centuries, driven by concerns over waste accumulation, resource depletion, and climate change, that the circular economy concept reemerged as vital for sustainable development. In recent years, the urgency for a circular transition has accelerated. Governments have introduced policies to promote circularity, and technological advancements have improved recycling and resource recovery. International bodies like the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) now advocate for circular economy principles, urging institutions like banks to incorporate them into operations. UNEP FI, for example, launched resources in 2024 to help banks support circular solutions. The circular economy is particularly significant for developing economies like India, where growing consumption challenges sustainability. Initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan emphasize waste management and resource efficiency. As a key enabler of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the circular economy offers a pathway to a sustainable, equitable future, requiring collective action and innovation from governments, businesses, and individuals. Moderating a session on the circular economy at The Times Group ET NOW Global Business Summit provided a valuable platform for exploring these critical issues. The panel, comprising experts such as Aleksandra Pietilä, Anne Raudaskoski, Shahriare Mahmood, PhD, Shalini Goyal Bhalla, Anand Bajpai, and Indrajeet Mitra, offered diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with transitioning to a #circulareconomy. The discussion underscored the importance of fostering innovation, promoting collaboration, and empowering individuals to embrace circular practices in their daily lives.

  • We were honoured to participate in two panel discussions at the #BharatTex and The Times Group ET NOW Global Business Summit 2025 in Delhi last weekend! As well as sharing our expertise on the panels, our trip aimed to identify collaborators and market opportunities for #circulareconomy projects and programmes—and with the heartfelt welcome we received, it truly felt like mission accomplished! ✅ 🇮🇳 India is ready to fully embrace the circular economy! While the focus remains largely on recycling, there is a strong and growing appetite for broader circular actions - which are also helping to improve companies' ESG rankings. 🌻 One key initiative that stood out in many discussions was Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which was launched in 2022. This movement encourages organisations and individuals to drive the transition to a circular, low-carbon and life-sustaining society. Over four intensive days, we held high-level meetings and discussions with NITI Aayog, the International Council for Circular Economy and UNDP in India. The warm welcome and enthusiasm for collaboration was truly inspiring! Now it's time to turn these discussions into a concrete action plan. And a big thank you to Business Finland's India team - Dharmesh Sharan, Anuradha Batra and Gitta Perez - for their invaluable support and seamless arrangements. We look forward to the next steps!
