At Familia, we're excited to share our latest blog by our Volunteer Coordinator, Allison Abdile. Known as a career designer and dedicated advocate for job seekers in Finland, Allison has helped countless internationals navigate the complexities of the Finnish job market, offering expert guidance and support. But beyond her professional expertise, Allison has a hidden talent: poetry. And through it, she brings a unique, empathetic perspective on the struggles and resilience of job seekers in Finland. 📊 Why is this conversation so essential now? Unemployment rates among international residents in Finland remain significantly higher than the national average, with many struggling to overcome language barriers, build networks, and gain fair recognition for their skills. Despite their qualifications and ambitions, numerous internationals experience prolonged job searches, often impacting their well-being and sense of belonging. In her blog, Allison shares a heartfelt poem dedicated to those facing these challenges. Her words aim to uplift, inspire, and remind every job seeker that they are not alone on this journey. ➡️ Read the full blog here: https://bit.ly/3UpWkJP to discover Allison's insights and find inspiration through her words.

English below 👇 Pitkäaikainen vapaaehtoistyöntekijämme, ja entinen työntekijämme, Ali Dadi on esillä Ensi- ja turvakotien liitto - Federation of Mother and child homes and Shelters -lehden lokakuun numerossa. **** Our longtime volunteer, and former employee, Ali Dadi, has been featured in the October issue of Ensi- ja turvakotien liitto - Federation of Mother and child homes and Shelters' magazine for their theme, "Volunteers supporting families." Ali’s dedication to supporting multicultural families through Familia highlights his commitment to helping parents feel more connected and supported. In his own words: "Seeing the relief on parents' faces after our events. Volunteering with Familia has shown me that it's not just about giving but receiving. 📢  On September 15th we celebrated the #InternationalDemocracyDay, where civil society called on EU leaders to take decisive actions to foster a vibrant civic space,  uphold democracy and safeguard fundamental rights. The open letter #EUCivicSpaceNow, initiated by Civil Society Europe and backed by 415 civil society organisations, including Familia —from 26 Member States and 4 EU candidate countries— is addressed to the upcoming Polish, Danish, and Cypriot Presidencies of the Council of the European Union, as well as the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament. This letter outlines concrete actions to promote democracy, enable, support and protect civil society, strengthen civil dialogue and protect human rights amid growing concerns over the erosion of democracy in the EU. Specifically, it calls for prioritising: 1️⃣  A European Civil Society Strategy 2️⃣  A strong mandate for a Commission Vice President responsible for democracy, civic space and civil dialogue 3️⃣  The adoption of a Civil Dialogue Agreement 4️⃣  Empowering funding policies 5️⃣  A European Democracy Semester 6️⃣  A stronger role of the Fundamental Rights Agency Read the letter, share and support our cause! 👉 https://bit.ly/3zjaaXe
