Solar power production and biodiversity can thrive together! With thoughtful planning and sustainable practices, solar farms can play a dual role in producing clean energy and supporting local ecosystems. Our Head of Solar Engineering Elina Kärkimaa gives an example: “Meadow plants placed under and between panels attract pollinators and support the local ecosystem. Perennials can improve soil quality and provide habitats for various species. Already during construction, we aim to select a plant suitable for the soil, such as clover, to be sown to promote biodiversity and, on the other hand, to prevent tall vegetation. Sheep grazing in the panel area is a worthwhile win-win solution in many fields". Read more on our website 👇 https://lnkd.in/dgrRi_5Q #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #Biodiversity #SolarPower

Yesterday, Ilmatar´s offshore team, represented by David Ståhlman and Christian Pleijel, had the honour of hosting Enrika Uusitalo and Jan Willems from the global heavy-lifting and transport company Sarens. They visited Åland to assess the current state of offshore wind power development and explore how their expertise might contribute. “At this early stage, we are here to see if we can leverage our experience and know-how to support the local development work. As a heavy lifting operator, we are no competitor to wind power developers, harbours, or shipping companies, but can collaborate at all levels,” says Enrika Uusitalo. During the visit to Åland, Saren's representatives met with Camilla Gunell, Minister for Infrastructure and Climate Change, as well as with representatives of Eckerö Linjen/Berghamn Harbour, Eriksson Bygg Ab, Ansgar Ab and Alandia Försäkring, among others. “Åland is a small community amidst large-scale energy production development. I believe we have expanded the understanding of what is possible for Åland regarding the benefits of offshore wind power. We have also identified networks and areas where Sarens can be of assistance,” says Jan Willems. #RenewableEnergy #WindPower #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #Ilmatar #WindEnergy #heavylifting #ålandislands

Piitu Taponen’s top-graded thesis on energy storage supports the building of future energy ecosystem. In her master's thesis, Piitu delved deep into studying the economic profitability of energy storage – a topic that is of great importance for the future of renewable energy. Piitu completed of her master's thesis with the highest possible grade and has been nominated for the award for the best thesis of the year presented by World Energy Council Finland and the Finnish Association of Energy Economists (FAEE). Piitu, we are so proud of you and grateful for your good work! #RenewableEnergy #CareerGrowth #IlmatarEnergy #Innovation https://lnkd.in/dgRpJ7e6

Sustainability and Communication committees of Suomen uusiutuvat / Renewables Finland held a joint workshop yesterday at Ilmatar’s HQ. Chairpersons for the committees Reetta Nurmo (she/her) (Communications) and Cecilia Hertzberg (Sustainability) were happy that the joint workshop resulted in a number of new and concrete ideas that will be taken forward. It was valuable to deepen the bond between communication and sustainability. Thank you for organizing this workshop at Ilmatar! #RenewableEnergy #cooperation #Ilmatar #SuomenUusiutuvat

Today, August 26, we celebrate Ilmatar's name day. Have you ever wondered what our name, Ilmatar, means and where it comes from? Ilmatar, the name inspired by Finnish mythology, symbolises the Goddess of Air. The connection to the name comes from the company's early years, as Ilmatar was established to harness the wind, and today the also the sun, to shape a more sustainable future. For many of us, Ilmatar is more than a company name. Our employees, Ilmatarians, share in the article what Ilmatar means to them - each with a unique perspective, all united by the same name. Did you know that building a wind farm happens piece by piece? It's not an easy task, but with careful planning and strong collaboration, we achieve great things. Construction of our 30-turbine Pahkakoski wind farm in Yli-Ii is on track. It is one of the first large scale sites in Europe to be built with the innovative TCI-operating model ensuring efficient and seamless construction. Our partner SILVASTI begun the transportation of components from port of Raahe to Pahkakoski wind farm this week. The construction of our Korpilevonmäki wind farm is progressing well. The civil works (roads, hardstands, foundation and 33kv cabling works) have been finished and first turbine components were delivered to the site on 8 August. The pre-installation of the first three tower sections will start this week. “From construction perspective the well-developed project is progressing according to all plans related to both schedule and budget.”, comments Petri Ainonen, Director, Construction. #renewableenergy #windfarm #windenergy #construction

Matters important to us are visible in our partnerships. Circular economy is one example. The recycling potential of wind turbines is over 90%. Although the actual recycling process is not yet topical, as the manufacturer promises a service life of up to 40 years for wind power plants, we make sure that power plants' materials and components can be reused and recycled even better in the future. Circular economy at the heart of our cooperation with the Finnish Scouts. For the second year in a row, we are supporting the Sustainable Scouting Fund, which enables local groups to better integrate the circular economy and environmental actions into their activities. Already 48 local groups have received support for their actions. #circulareconomy #renewableenergy #cooperation #FinnishScouts. Today we had the pleasure of presenting Ilmatar, our offshore projects and the interregional island co-operation that is underway between Åland, Gotland, Bornholm and Saaremaa to five British journalists from among others The Telegraph, The Times and The Economist, hosted by Markus Hippi from Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. "It was exciting to welcome journalists from the UK, a country at the forefront of offshore wind power. We discussed significant topics such as energy's role in the current geopolitical landscape, international connectivity, foundation types, and the socio-economic opportunities and challenges we face as a society," says Anna Häger, Ilmatar's Regional Manager. on the Åland Islands. #renewableenergy #ilmatar #cleantransition #offshorewind
