What better way to teach kids about sustainability than by getting their hands dirty (in the best way possible)? 🌱 Our Estonian team is currently running the Green Hunt campaign, where kindergarten and schoolchildren are encouraged to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. As part of the journey, a special workshop was hosted by Mai-Liis Kivistik, where the kids learned how to make their own body scrubs from natural ingredients! This was followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of Kuusakoski’s recycling operations, hosted by Villu Jahimaa and Jüri Kangilaski. One teacher shared their feedback: “The experience was amazing! My 5th grade students gained so much knowledge and loved being hands-on. They learned about recycling and sustainability in a way that was both fun and meaningful. I’m so grateful for this opportunity, and I’m sure this will inspire them to make a real difference in the future!” At Kuusakoski, we’re thrilled to inspire the next generation to think sustainably! 💚 #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #Sustainability #GreenHunt #Recycling #CircularEconomy #CommunityEngagement

  • Let’s talk electronics recycling acronyms! ♻️ For example, WEEE stands for Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment. 📱 EOL stands for End Of Life and EOU stands for End Of Use. But how about ITAD? Do you know what it means? 🤔 Take a guess in the poll! After the poll closes, we’ll reveal the correct answer and explain why ITAD plays such a crucial role in sustainability and recycling. 🌍 #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #Recycling #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ITAD

  • Exciting news from our Swedish team in Gävle! Our operations have taken a big step forward with the arrival of a new electric material handler. Ronny Hjelm, Gävle site manager, shares: "The new material handler is a leap forward for us. It improves how we work and aligns perfectly with our sustainability goals. We're excited to see its impact." The machine boosts efficiency and sustainability by offering: ✅ Greater reach and capacity ✅ Enhanced reliability ✅ Lower maintenance costs ✅ A safer, more comfortable workplace This investment also supports Kuusakoski’s broader mission of achieving carbon neutrality in our own operations by 2035. Every step toward modernising and making our processes more sustainable brings us closer to that goal. We’re excited to see how this new addition helps make an even greater impact in Gävle and beyond! #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #Sustainability #Innovation #CircularEconomy

  • In December, Arsi Saukkola, R&D Manager at Kuusakoski, represented us at the European Commission’s #RawMaterialsWeek2024 in Brussels - the largest policy event on raw materials. ⛏️ Arsi delivered a presentation and joined a panel discussion on the recycling of magnetic and superconducting materials, sharing Kuusakoski's expertise in advancing sustainable solutions. Reflecting on the event, Arsi noted: "Raw Materials Week underscored a critical challenge: the current regulatory environment in Europe is increasingly complex, driving investments to other continents. It’s easier to import thousands of tonnes of ore from the other side of the globe than to transport a few tonnes of clean recycled metals between EU member states. This is a pivotal moment for the recycling industry to step up. We must lead efforts to gain the recognition and legitimacy our work deserves - not through more restrictive regulations but by ensuring the free movement of materials. Enabling this will strengthen Europe’s resource independence and sustainability." The event gathered 1,500 participants and showcased Europe’s leadership in responsible sourcing and innovation in raw materials. By prioritising domestic resources, strategic partnerships, recycling, and circular economy initiatives, Europe is set to lead the way in responsible resource management. At Kuusakoski, we’re proud to contribute to this journey toward a more sustainable future for all. 🌱 #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #CircularEconomy #Sustainability

  • Every year, around 70,000–80,000 cars end up in Finnish scrapyards. Through proper recycling, up to 95% of a vehicle’s materials can be reused, reducing the need for virgin materials and saving CO2 emissions. With the average car lifespan in Europe being approximately 20 years, it’s no surprise that many cars reaching recycling centers today are from 2003. What might surprise you are the trends in color and model: 🎨 Most common colors: Grey and Red 🚘 Most recycled models: Volkswagen Golf, Opel Astra, Ford Focus How old is your car, and what’s its color? • Secure, on-site data destruction solution in Sweden 🔐 Kuusakoski's Swedish team, in collaboration with Containertjänst, has developed a data destruction container that can be transported anywhere for secure, on-site shredding of sensitive data. The container ensures that devices such as hard drives, smartphones, and USB sticks are completely destroyed, leaving no chance for data retrieval. “This solution allows for secure destruction of sensitive data, whether in a crisis situation or as a routine operation,” says Magnus Mattisson, Head of ITAD Operations at Kuusakoski Sweden. With a battery-powered system that operates for up to a week, this container provides a reliable solution for organisations looking to safeguard critical information, especially in compliance with GDPR. ☑️ Find out more from the link in the comments (in Swedish). 📸 Photos by Containertjänst #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #DataSecurity #GDPR #ITAD #DataDestruction

  • Have questions about CSRD, ESRS, or carbon footprint reporting? Let’s get them answered! 💬 Kuusakoski’s sustainability experts—Tuomas Haikka, Chief Sustainability Officer, and Sara Tikka, Sustainability and Life Cycle Expert—are here to help you navigate these important topics. With CSRD reporting now mandatory for large companies (those meeting at least 2/3 of these thresholds: turnover > EUR 50M, balance > EUR 25M, or > 250 employees), many are wondering where to start. Even smaller companies may find themselves involved, as larger companies often require supply chain partners to meet reporting standards. Kuusakoski’s Carbon Footprint Calculator provides ESRS-compliant insights: ✅ ESRS E1: Carbon footprint data for recycling and material transport. ✅ ESRS E5: Material flow data, recyclability, and end-of-life utilisation. Drop your questions in the comments, and we’ll have Tuomas and Sara provide clarity! 👇 #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #Sustainability #CSRD #ESRS #CarbonFootprint #CorporateSustainability
