💡 New in aging research: insights into the metabolic profile of biological aging from the UK Biobank data analyzed by Nightingale Health A recent study published in Nature Communications analyzed the metabolomic profile of aging in 250,341 participants from the UK Biobank, identifying 54 key aging-related biomarkers linked to all-cause mortality and multiple age-related health outcomes. The study used data from the UK Biobank’s metabolomic data set analyzed by Nightingale Health. Researchers developed a metabolomic aging score that predicts short-term mortality risk more accurately than existing metrics and than chronological age itself. Additionally, they leveraged a subset of the UK Biobank with metabolomic data measured at multiple time points to derive individuals’ aging rates, showing that a faster aging rate is associated with higher mortality risk. This groundbreaking work has huge implications for personalized monitoring of aging and early disease intervention. Building sustainable healthcare
About us
Nightingale Health’s mission is to build sustainable healthcare and reduce health inequalities. Nightingale Health has developed the world’s most advanced health check for the health industry. Our solution provides risk detection for multiple chronic diseases from a single blood sample. Nightingale’s Health Check can be scaled to entire populations at a low cost, and it can replace many of the current risk assessments. Detecting disease risks on a population level allows for the effective targeting and tracking of health interventions, and better prevention of the onset of chronic diseases. With every sample we help to create a healthier world.

Greetings from London! Nightingale Health has completed the analysis of blood samples from all 500,000 UK Biobank participants, creating a valuable open resource of blood metabolomics data for scientific research. This week, we celebrated the milestone in London. The day started with a morning workshop, that included a hands-on practical showing how to analyse a large-scale metabolomics dataset, demonstrated using a synthetic dataset, and how to integrate with other datasets, demonstrated using UK Biobank's synthetic hospital inpatient data. In the afternoon symposium, we had insightful talks from Naomi Allen, Verena Zuber, Michael Inouye, Luke Jostins-Dean, Laura Corbin, Cristina Menni, and Jan Krumsiek. Thank you to all the speakers for your fascinating presentations! The day ended with a drinks reception and engaging discussions. The entire event was filled with inspiration and enthusiasm. Stay tuned for the full UK Biobank data release and the groundbreaking discoveries it will bring. Thank you to all participants for making this day truly memorable!

Crafting connections after hours! 🌟 Last week, Sumy Choi, one of our Flock members, organized a fun and relaxing beads accessory-making afterwork session at our office, Nightingale Health HQ. It was the perfect way to unwind by channeling our creativity and connecting with each other beyond office hours. We discovered that focusing on tinkering with tiny beads was a great way to de-stress and spark fresh creative ideas after a busy day. Shout-out to Sumy for arranging the inspirational session – everyone truly got a chance to showcase their inner jewelry artist! ✨ We can't wait for our next chance to create new and enjoyable experiences together. 💜

Maternal health research highlight: Recent study links pre-pregnancy obesity to increased inflammation and depression risk Recent research from the pre-birth cohort Barwon Infant Study reveals that pre-pregnancy obesity is not only a risk factor for depression during pregnancy but also correlates with heightened inflammation. The study included 883 women and analyzed their depressive symptoms and stress levels during and after pregnancy. Key findings: 💡 For each kg/m2 increase in pre-pregnancy BMI, the risk of depression during pregnancy rises. 💡 Elevated levels of several inflammatory biomarkers, like GlycA and IL-6, were noted in women with obesity. GlycA was analyzed for 704 out of 883 women in the study using Nightingale Health’s blood analysis service. 💡 While these inflammatory markers showed a connection to depression and stress, their exact role in linking obesity to depression requires further study. Joyful update from our Brand & Marketing crew! The team has been strengthened with valuable support of Sini-Pilvi Silén as she has taken the new role of a Marketing Assistant. 🥳 Already when reading through the job description, Sini-Pilvi felt strongly that she would be a great fit to the role as she was ticking all the boxes of the job announcement. Throughout the recruitment process, Sini-Pilvi got the chance to meet the entire Brand & Marketing team and the intuition only got stronger: 💬 "During the interview, I connected with the team so effortlessly that I could easily envision myself being part of it. I love that our team of seven is versatile, yet still very close-knit and I’ve felt like natural part of the team from the first day. As a part of the process, I had the pleasure to meet many possible future colleagues, including our CEO Teemu Suna. From the very first day, I felt welcomed as I already knew so many faces from the recruitment process – it truly made starting a new job easier." After the first few weeks, Sini-Pilvi is genuinely delighted to recognize the vital role she plays within the team and to see how her contributions matter: 💬 "I’m an organized people person, and I truly enjoy being a supportive team member in our office. I value that my job varies from very practical tasks, like organizing the marketing storage room, to more abstract ones. I wouldn’t like to sit behind my desk eight hours a day so it’s ideal that my days can be so different. Furthermore, I’m pleased that I'm able to collaborate with many colleagues from other teams as well!" Warmest welcome to the team, Sini-Pilvi, happy to have you onboard! 💜

At Nightingale Health, we are committed to taking steps toward a healthier, more vibrant workday, boosting our wellbeing with every move we make. Recently, a group of team members has started stepping up by climbing the stairs from the bottom floor of our office building to the top. It's been a great way to squeeze in a little extra movement while we are in the office. 🏢✨ As supported by research, stair climbing is an easy way to take a break from sedentary office work and improve cardiovascular fitness. Whether climbing for physical health or just to avoid the midday slump, every step counts. 🏃♀️🏃♂️ Research shows that climbing stairs reduces the risk of many diseases, including heart diseases and diabetes. Climbing more than five flights of stairs (approximately 50 steps) daily has been shown to protect against heart diseases. Additionally, stair climbing lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes. It’s amazing how these small, fun efforts together add up to big health benefits – not to mention the added energy boost for the rest of the office day! 💪🌟
