❗ 🌍 Despite record-high renewable energy production, emissions are still rising. We need actionable insights now more than ever. We are very proud of our contribution to Capgemini's 26th WEMO report that offers valuable guidance for navigating the complexities of the evolving energy landscape and the path to sustainable progress. 📝 ➡️ Access the full report: https://lnkd.in/drZ83EXY #wemo2024 #energytransition
It is 8 years since the Paris Agreement came into effect, but we are not on track to meet its objectives. ⏰ ⚡♻️ Findings from the 2024 World Energy Markets Observatory (WEMO) show that while renewable energy sources like solar and wind power grew 14% in capacity, CO₂ emissions still increased by 1.2% in 2023. What should we do to achieve these critical climate goals? Our insights reveal how we can help balance sustainability, energy sovereignty, and affordability. 🌏 Explore the 26th edition of the WEMO report here: https://bit.ly/47ABvAe Capgemini Energy Transition & Utilities #GetTheFutureYouWant #WEMO2024 #EnergyTransition #NetZero

🚀 Don’t miss out on this insightful EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER)-Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) Webinar today! 💡 Dr Philip Lewis, CEO of VaasaETT, will join a discussion on the potential of new contracts and how effective communication can empower consumers to make informed decisions. 🔗 There's still time to register 👇
ACER-CEER webinar: active consumer participation is key to driving the energy transition: how can it happen? 💡🌍 ACER and the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) will present key findings and recommendations from their 2024 #MarketMonitoringReport: Active consumer participation is key to driving the #EnergyTransition: how can it happen? 📅 Monday, 7 October 2024 | 14:00 - 15:00 CEST | 🌐 Online 💼 Why join the event? The retail #EnergySector must contribute to #decarbonisation goals, but barriers to #DemandResponse and distributed #energy resources persist. This requires barriers to entry to be dismantled and supportive investment frameworks to be created to enable small, #climate-compatible flexibility resources to participate in all #ElectricityMarkets on an equal footing with traditional centralised sources of flexibility. Gain insights into #retail #EnergyMarkets in Europe in 2023 and discover the changes required to achieve #CarbonNeutrality by 2050. 🔎 Join the discussion to: ⚡ Understand the importance of #flexibility at #consumer level and the need for efficient grid use, and the urgency of accelerating the roll-out of #SmartMeters. It is necessary to create incentives for #consumers to actively adapt their consumption when needed and for #storage to be operated dynamically. 💪 Explore dynamic pricing and flexible contracts to empower consumers for a sustainable energy future. Traditional fixed/flat price contracts are insufficient; embedding flexibility and participation in the #ElectricityMarket is essential. Read more 👉https://lnkd.in/dcruQXRk

💡 Energy #pricing models are shifting to better reflect consumer costs and optimize #grid management. Countries like #Norway, #Sweden, and #Slovenia are leading the way with innovative, dynamic #tariffs: 🔹 Norway: A multi-component grid rent system incentivises spreading electricity usage throughout the day. 🔹 Sweden: Starting in 2024, for the DSO C4 Elnät, transmission fees will partially depend on hourly spot prices, promoting off-peak usage. 🔹 Slovenia: A new tariff system, launching in October 2024, will focus on 15-minute intervals, encouraging consumers to manage their energy effectively. These trends are paving the way for a more efficient and sustainable energy future. 🌱 👀 Read the blog by our Energy Market Analyst Anastasia Zafeiriou 🔜 Stay tuned for the release of our next Household Energy Price Index report, analysing August price developments in 33 European markets, coming in a few days! #EnergyInnovation #DynamicPricing #Sustainability

The gap between wholesale and unprotected all-in retail electricity prices for households are at an all time high. What used to be a typical margin without protection measures is now a typical margin with those measures included. The gap, it should be stressed, includes not only energy but also network and other regulated charges (including tax and VAT), but it represents an important metric representing the price consumers are offered relative to the market cost of energy. The question is, have retail prices adjusted to protection measures - able to rise because customers are isolated from the full impact of those increases? Or have increased risk premiums been built into price setting? Or have non-energy costs increased in significance? Well as you might expect, it is a complex mix of all these factors. Either way, without the current price protection measures, imposed during the crisis but still present in most European markets, retail electricity prices would be more distanced from wholesale than at any time since records began. As of July 2024 the gap was 18.4 c€/kWh, compared with an average of 13.7 c€/kWh prior to COVID and the energy crisis.
