Planning an upcoming thermal inspection of a 40 ha solar panel park in Sweden. We have been monitoring the progress of this construction site weekly using a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone, which has performed excellent even in heavy winds (<15m/s)! But now it's soon time for a final thermal inspection of the solar panels using a DJI Matrice 30T drone, which is equipped with a thermal camera. The mission have been divided into 3 separate flight routes, and each flight route is estimated to a flight time of approx. 1.5 hours. Of course battery and memory card swappings and return-to-home flights will add time as well. Hopefully the whole mission will be done within 6 hours. Luckily I can charge the batteries from my Kia EV6, which has the ability to provide 240V(?) charging to the battery station for the drone. There are 6 batteries in total (the drone uses 2 each time). If the sun is shining sufficiently (< 600w / m²) all flight routes should be completed during one day. Sweden is often considered an innovative country with a vast geography of remote and urban environments. These two factors should position Sweden as an ideal location for scalable drone solutions. 🇸🇪 According to the searchable database provided by the Swedish Transport Agency, there are currently 30 granted permits to operate UAS within the Specific Category. Half of these permits enable BVLOS operations. This is good, but I want to see more. Scaling drone operations heavily relies on the regulatory framework, but it also depends on the people, ideas, and technology that are put in place to pave the way for the Swedish and global drone industry. This video highlights a critical deficiency prevalent in many American cities: the infrastructural and planning bias towards automobile dependency due to planning for extensive urban sprawl. The spatial configuration of these urban areas has predominantly prioritized private vehicle use, resulting in a significant disconnect between residential zones and efficient mass transit systems. This phenomenon underscores the imperative for future urban design paradigms to pivot towards enhancing connectivity and accessibility of public transportation networks, thereby mitigating car-centric urban development. Such a shift is essential for fostering sustainable urban mobility and reducing the adverse environmental impacts associated with vehicular emissions.

The Swedish Railway Collaboration association had its strategy day. A Rail vision was decided in March 2024, a roadmap was discussed and will be decided soon. Another question that was discussed is how to turn the vision and roadmap into reality? Do we recognize that question 😉😄 The challenge here is that the Members are a mixture of companies responsible for different business areas that individually must take actions coordinated and in cooperation. That requires a strategic approach that aligns execution with long-term goals. Breaking down the vision into actionable steps, organizing the work and the nesessary resources, maintaining focus, and iterating as necessary. We can turn our strategic roadmap into actual results. The CEOs and Director Generals are the guiding forces in the work so I am confident that we will do it, the trip just started.

📢 BIG News! We're set to install a network of 30 Meteodrones and Meteobases in Norway! Meteomatics and NORCE Norwegian Research Centre are partnering on a multi-million euro project to enhance weather forecasting in #Norway. By the end of 2025, we'll install 30 #Meteodrones and #Meteobases across the country to improve data collection and weather predictions, addressing limitations in current models. The data captured by the Meteodrones, including temperature, humidity, air pressure, and wind speed, will be integrated into #EURO1k, our high-resolution weather model. By combining these advanced technologies, Meteomatics is setting the standard for a new era of meteorological precision, benefiting the economy and society. Installation begins this summer, with locations chosen for optimal data collection. Our CEO, Dr. Martin Fengler, states, “We are honored to play a part in Norway’s forward-looking initiative to prepare itself for weather-related challenges. #BEUC2024 is concluded and it went great!👏 Loads of new information was shared. During the conference, 3Di had a presentation, that was presented by the companies board member, Vaiko Veeleid on the topic of drone surveying and 3D modelling for digital twins. What was discussed? 🧠 👉 In Estonia, the public orthophoto map, done by the Estonian Land Board is in the resolution of 10cm, whilst threw #dronesurveying, it is the norm for us to achieve 1.5cm resolution. This allows for more detailed 2D information handling, which in return, yields generally better and more accurate results. 👉 Local governments should shift their focus to 3D information, creating accurate digital twins of every city. This was done by 3Di, in collaboration with the City of #Tartu and has proven to be invaluable, regarding the managing of city infrastructure and construction. These digital twins also make room for digital model manipulation, making it possible to project any model into the existing one, to see, how it would look like in real life and how would it function threw simulations. 👉 Government administrations, such as Transpordiamet - Estonian Transport Administration can also benefit from the existence of digital information. It can help in infrastructure management allowing for simulations of traffic and public transportation, ensuring that everything can be tested (for example traffic jams), before having to build it. 👉 Detailed and high quality information capture is used to efficiently manage the maintenance on any site, whether it be indoor, outdoor or underground. This is ensured by the fact, that our capture is done at an accuracy of 0,4mm, allowing for realistic measurements to be taken from the created model of the site. 👉 Reality capture allows for visualization of previous progress points in any construction. This means, that it is possible to later view and identify the exact location of underground objects, such as pipelines. In facts, with every BIM model, it is possible to visualize it in real life using #AR, meaning you can not only visualize the past, but also the future. 👉 And much more.....
