Apple has a new Swift tutorials webpage for budding developers

Apple has launched a new tutorial webpage featuring beginner resources for programming using Swift, Swift UI, and Xcode.

Ahead of its annual Worldwide Developer Conference this June, "Develop in Swift Tutorials" has appeared on the the company's developer website. It offers guides intended to encourage new would-be developers.

The site is aimed at those with little or no prior coding experience. It features step-by-step guides on how to install Xcode, create a new project in Swift, and creating a simple app using SwiftUI.

Chapters in the tutorials cover fundamental topics such as Xcode views, structures, and properties, as well as example code that teaches budding coders how to personalize their own projects. Managing layout and style as well as creating buttons, lists, and text fields are also detailed.

Apple's head of developer tools marketing, Tim Sneath, announced the new page, saying the tutorials are a "great foundational" and that the tutorials on the website are "for everyone."

In addition to the foundations of SwiftUI and app navigation, there is a section of the tutorials devoted to spatial computing and developing for the Apple Vision Pro. The listed requirements for the tutorials include a Mac running either macOS Sonoma or Ventura, Xcode, and "curiosity and imagination."

This is great. Swift Data was a huge announcement at WWDC last year. Now beginners have some up to date tutorials that build with the latest technologies.

But these tutorials are not enough. Apple really need to update their school curriculum materials for Swift UI and SwiftData. Those teaching materials are now very old and outdated.
