I arh not stewpid I just didn't know that. Your post need only show us how you/me/we all learn something occasionally that made us better educated. Can be one or two sentences long. Or like the example I have for you here HUGH. Everybody seems to find out something on an occasion during their 24/7 364 days before their birthday that they didn't know. We're not stupid! We're just not educated in school to know everything about everything so it is no surprise when we find something we didn't know about, for various reasons. The point of this thread is to post any moment you have one of those moments when your level of educated status learns something you found out about because you never knew anyone or read anything about it until... well, today. Got a stupid moment that you have some education about but, you suddenly discovered more about it you didn't learn until now. Doesn't have to be something this very moment. But remembering what you learned that because of seeing a note one of the web pages you ventured too. I didn't know that! Post what is was you didn't know... Like this. I didn't know that.... I found out today that I know more about HOW a new lawn is supposed to be put in. I knew about needing to shovel and then rake the soil until it was level. I watched as a person was working on a lot putting in a new lawn. First the soil had nothing growing on it. After leveling and raking it he got out a big round thing with three inch knobs sticking out all over and around the barrel. It had an attachment at each end with steel rods attached there which were bent a ways up so the bend was above the barrel. The bar was bent again where to the two ends met and formed into a single bar going along. Then they met at the top where it was bent again so it had a T shape with handles. He grabbed a hose from the truck and opened a cap on one end of the barrel and filled the barrel with water. I found out the water was just to give the barrel weight. Then he put the cap on. Stood up and grabbed the handles and started pushing the barrel so the three inch long knobs about an inch in diameter each poked holes with their flat tips. He looked at me staring as he started out. Waved me over to the thing. He pointed at one handle and told me to grab it and put my weight into it. While he pushed on the other handle. What is this thing? It's an Aerator for soil. That was built way back by a blacksmith. Way back before motors were not around for lawn mowers and stuff. It is used to prepare the soil for a new lawn before putting a layer of Peet moss or Loam down and then the sod with grass already growing on it. The holes capture water and keep your lawn from getting blotchy patches of dying grass during the Spring and Summer seasons. And their lawn will last for many years without any special treatment. It was hard work pushing that five foot long barrel across the ground with it half full of water.
