Good Day, Setting the stage: So I've recently gotten back to Skyrim, bought the AE version, and dived into modding with an honestly stupid amount of research, tutorials, youtube mining, etc. I have downloaded quite a few mods (a total of ~430 plugins which I know is a lot but I paid a pretty penny for this computer specifically for gaming purposes.) Now I've mined the s*** out of nexus for every possible compatibility patch and unofficial patch that I could find as well as following tutorials for wild edit cleans, and I'm running into a bit of an issue. The Issue: At first I thought the problem was a conflict with AS-LAL. So I replaced that with Skyrim Unbound and redid all of my checks. Turns out that wasn't the problem. Uninstall any Alternate starts, problem persists. Whats happening is that there are simply no dialogue options appearing. Like the courier, he runs up and says his piece but does not initiate an actual dialogue box. Merchants, quest givers, and so on simply say their initial line as if they would be starting a conversation with the character, but nothing else happens. This obviously leaves me in a bit of a bind as nothing can progress. The Statue of Mara in AS-LAL was the first issue, which made me think something was wrong there even though I had no idea what could be going wrong. I've looked through each and every mod, disabled the whole lot, reinstalled after checking each for updates again, went through wryebash and loot just to make damn sure I wasn't missing anything. At this point, I'm at a loss and rather pissed off. The Point: If anyone else has run into this and figured it out or heard of something similar, I'd really appreciate some assistance. My google skills can't seem to turn up anything at all that fit my situation. The only dialogue box that will open is a random empty one at the very start with just the "Ok" acknowledgement for something like a menu. I've dived in with the vanilla start as well as each of the alternate starts. The result remains the same, no dialogue works beyond any NPC's greeting. No menu's work outside of the start menu and associated MCM's.   3. Hi! Fallout 4 is the best but it will be better if someone made a mod that toggles the helmets OFF ONLY DURING CONVERSATIONS/DIALOGUES. I mean, during exploration/combat, you can see the helmet ON but you won't be able to see the helmet whenever you talk/interact with another person or an event. The reason behind this request is that I love to explore in full battle gear but I also want to see my character's facial animations (ie speak) during dialogue/conversations. Hoping for a request granted any time soon. Thanks, vault dwellers!

  5. I have the strangest problem with Fallout 3. I’m playing the vanilla game (Game of the Year Edition with all DLC), but no mods or anything… and every once in a while, quite randomly, NPC will just have no voice when I am talking to them. The subtitles work, and their mouths and gestures work, but no voice. Then all of a sudden I’ll pick another conversation topic and they’ll start talking again. When I talked to Vance’s girlfriend in the Family’s base this bug one time affected all her speech except greetings and farewells. It was all totally random, however, and on my last play her speech worked but the old lady, Manya, in Megaton, her speech didn’t. I Googled this problem for like a week before considering posting about it here, and I tried every possible “fix” for voice issues that anybody could come up with. Here is a list of all that I did to try and solve this problem. I have pretty much exhausted all possibilities I could think of. 1. Going under my computer’s control panel to check if my sound is set to just Stereo and nothing like Quad sound or Surround or anything. It’s just set to normal stereo desktop speakers, nothing fancy. Just for laughs I tried setting it to all the other settings and then to off. Nothing helped the voice bug in Fallout 3, however. 2. Playing the radio with the radio volume down during conversations. This also did nothing to fix the voice bug. Just as well, since this was annoying to do every time I wanted to talk to someone in the game. It seemed dubious at best anyway, but I had to try it just in case it was a working fix. It wasn’t, however. 3. Extracting all the voice files from the game’s bsa and putting them in their corresponding folder where the game is installed. This was simple using the Fallout Mod Manager (about the only thing I did use that program for, since I’m not using mods in my game). It did nothing to solve the voice bug either. And took a while to do. 4. Setting the Audio Cache size in the Fallout.ini file to something higher, such as iAudioCacheSize=4096 … this too did nothing to solve the voice bug, though I have left the changed setting since it can only help rather than hinder my game’s audio regardless of the voice bug I have been experiencing. 5. Somebody once suggested the “Skullaputra” fix, as I believe it is called. I tried it and it too did nothing to solve the voice bug. I honestly didn’t think it would work, and hated to try such an odd “fix” but by that point I figured it was worth a try just to see what would happen. It was a no-go however in the end. 6. Installing the latest K-Lite Codec pack. I fully installed K-Lite Codec 1080 Mega and it as well did nothing to solve the voice bug. As with the Audio Cache setting, I decided to keep the new pack since it’s handy and will work well with programs other than Fallout 3. Can’t have too many helpful programs, I say! 7. I also made totally certain that .ogg files are associated with Windows Media Player on my computer, which they totally are, so that's not the answer to the problem either it would seem. The sheer randomness at which this bug hits is annoying, to say the least! Yesterday it struck in Rivet City when I was talking to Doctor Zimmer, today it struck in Megaton as I mentioned before. One day, at the Family’s base and another time at Big Town when I was talking to Dusty. There is no rhyme or reason to the bug, it just happens after a certain amount of time playing, ranging from an hour and a half to two or more hours. One time though, it struck after only fifteen minutes of playing. I have no clue what the cause of this bug could be, and I have read about countless people all over the Internet complaining about it and each of them trying different fixes with different results. But for many, including myself, no fix (at least none I’ve tried or read about) seems to work. Is there any fix for this issue that I am not aware of or have not yet tried which is known to solve this, or is it one of those random Bethesda game bugs that players just have to live with? For the record, I do not have this problem in New Vegas, Oblivion, or Morrowind. Only in Fallout 3, which seems like it’s something in just this game’s coding perhaps. Here are my computer specs (more than enough to run the game without crashing and with no slowdowns or other issues): Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2.00 GHZ (2CPUs) 2046 MB RAM, DirectX 9.0c, ATI Radeon HD 3600 video card with 512 MB on it, and Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio for my sound. Lastly, I am running Windows XP. I am running the game in 800x600 resolution, no Antialiasing, Anisotropic Filtering at 8 Samples, Vsync on, and HDR on. Graphics-wise, I have no problems. Both my video card and sound card are updated with the latest drivers available for them, too. So, any idea what could be causing the voices to cut out randomly like this, and if there is an actual proven to work fix for it?
  6. So I come here after multiple play throughs with a simple question. "In Fallout 3, your skills and perk choices can affect your conversations. Why is this not true here?" Allow me an example. In Fallout 3, during the 'Wasteland Survival Guide quest', you need to fill a chapter about robotics. If you have the 'Robotics Expert' Perk, you can just tell Moira you'll write the chapter and just skip to the next one. So I ask, why not be able to do this in Skyrim? Examples I'd like to see include... Quest: Death Incarnate. Astrid: And to prove my sincerity, I prayed for a contract. You must kill...me. Dragonborn: [Restoration 75: Heal Astrid] Sorry, Astrid. But this is insane. You will not die this day. (Or, if you end the conversation, you can simply heal her back to normal. Whichever you'd prefer.) Quest: Bloodline (After refusing his offer to become a Vampire lord) Harkon: So be it! Dragonborn: [Conjuration 100: Remain where you are] (or you can allow him to banish you) Harkon: What? Dragonborn: Response 1: Banishment? You're funny. Response 2: Sorry, I just prefer to leave through the front door. Response 3: Heh, just kidding. I want to be a Vampire Lord. I was just wanting to see if you'd be stupid enough to actually try that. Quest: Speaking with Silence (Are you immune to poison? Sure, can make a poison that can affect Argonian's, but what if you're immune because you're wearing a dragonpriest mask that makes you immune? Nothing Karliah can make can overcome THAT) Karliah: Wha? How? Dragonborn: Response 1: [Argonian]: I'm Argonian. We're immune to poison. Response 2: [Hevnoraak]: It's the mask. Poison doesn't work on me. I dunno, just SOMETHING to affect how quests turn out. I have these skills and attributes and I want to use them and affect the outcome some how, either by humiliating Harkon to killing Mercer in an early boss fight, just SOMETHING! So if someone could begin to make a mod like this, you would be a hero. Bethesda would hire you and give you great honors. I would endorse it instantly.
  7. How do I modify current NPC conversation. Do I just check out the ones i have and edit, or do I duplicate it or make new ones and somehow game knows I am adding new lines.
  8. When I select "Say Once" on a Topic, the NPC Response Text doesn't display at all, but if I don't select "Say Once," it ignores my other "GREETINGS." Why isn't Say Once working properly for me? Thanks!
  9. I have a great many custom scenes to initiate conversations between certain NPCs. My problem is that all but a few of them are playing properly. I have tried: removing all conditions, I have checked their aliases multiple times, I have combed through each part of every scene, raised and lowered the Priority for each quest and the Story Manager nodes look great, but I cannot get these characters to talk to each other for anything. The funny thing is, when I look at all the details (Story Manager, Quest files) for the scenes that ARE working, they are set up EXACTLY the same as the ones that are not working. :wacko: Given this strange phenomena and Skyrim's reputation for being fickle, it is indeed possible that these conversations actually do function properly, but I have been unable to witness them doing so in order to verify. For an example, I have ten new conversations for Gorm (of Morthal). He has managed to run three of them (but oh so rarely! Confound it, Gorm!). >:( Now, given that Gorm's schedule tells him to sit at a particular table at the Moorside Inn, I did wonder if it could be a radius issue. To find out, I edited his Moorside package and made it a sandbox situation. I gave him plenty of room to roam and made certain that the Random Conversations box was ticked. But he still will not speak to Jonna (the barkeep). Every once in a blue moon he will deign to utilize his new dialogue with certain other NPCs, but it is far too rare an event and as I mentioned above, I have already tried raising and lowering the priority of the quests, to no avail. As tempting at it is to blame Gorm for all the trouble, there are other conversations with different NPCs who have no trouble chattering away with some characters, but are completely silent with others. :sad: I am utterly out of ideas. Any insight would appreciated.

I've already set up my alias for Serana (MorthalSceneRNPCAlias, External Alias Ref, DLC1NPCMentalModel Alias ------> ResponsiveNPC), and added her alias to the vanilla scene script as an "auto" property: ;BEGIN ALIAS PROPERTY MorthalSceneRNPCAlias ;ALIAS PROPERTY TYPE ReferenceAlias ReferenceAlias Property Alias_MorthalSceneRNPCAlias Auto After the last vanilla phase ( Phase 8 ) when JorgenAlias says his last line, I added a new Phase (9) where Serana would comment to the player. There is one requirement for that Phase to fire, (GetVMQuestVariable on DLC1NPCMentalModel, ::isFollowing_var) just to check if she's currently following the player. However, even when the requirements have been met, this Phase doesn't fire in-game. Looking at the vanilla scene in itself, there are four actors (Aslfur, Thonnir, Benor, and Jorgen) each with a UniqueActor FillType for their respective aliases. The quest scene is a Start Game Enabled one, immediately at Stage 0 moving the four characters into their respective scene markers.   12. Does anyone here have any idea about how to make town guards speak to named NPCs? I found a way to make town guards speak to one another, but the same method has not proved successful when it involves a town guard and a named NPC. I have tried several different variations involving conditions and IDs, but have had no luck at all. I even edited some of the guards to ensure that their schedules allowed them to have random conversations. I am out of ideas. I know that I can make one of the guards a unique NPC and have the conversation activate in that way, but I was truly hoping to have the named NPC sense the presence of a hold guard with the correct voice-type. Can anyone lend any insight?
  13. Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a mod that changes the NPC dialogues so that conversations with Stardew villagers become a bit more interesting. Now I already know how to edit the Dialogue files and how to make NPC's say certain things in certain situations. However, in some situations I would also like to make the screen go black while the conversation continues (so that you can only see the dialogue window but the background is black). This way I could make the NPC's take certain actions without actually having to change the visuals. Can anyone tell me if there's a simple way to do this? Or if it's even possible at all?
