  1. Breti's final Japanese Estate version is, so far, the absolute best of the Samurai/Medieval Japanese housing/estate mods. As far as I'm concerned its right up there with Lakeview Extended for looks and is easily one of the most complex and varied housing mods on the Nexus. However, it's set up with no load doors throughout and my comp whiz daughter tells me that will result in a very high level of memory usage. So, if she's correct, then it might be smart for a player to cut back on other mods in order to compensate...or not. What do I know. I just know what I like.
  2. Understand, this post is about what I'd prefer to find in a dwelling mod. Other folks will have different preferences no doubt. Not necessary to have a whole raft of display mannequins or show cases, though I do kinda like the mask and claw wall displays in various mods...such as Elysium Estate's approach. I do like having a variety of storage chests or barrels next to my crafting stations. Frex, In the Lakeview manor cellar one finds a barrel to the right of the tanning rack. That's really handy for hides, tanning books such as Fryssa the Wides book, or tanning baskets. Also in Lakeview, in the dining room, there's a barrel with the wash stand. The alchemy station is just to the left, which makes the barrel really handy for ingredient, crafting equipment, and book storage. Back in the Lakeview cellar there's a barrel just to the left of the smelter. That's also very handy for ore storage. Also in Lakeview, there's a chest up on a shelf just in back of the forge. That's very handy for ingots, gems, ... anything that's used to smith various items. Anyway, you get the picture. I like storage right next to the appropriate crafting area. That could be improved by having multiple storage next to the crafting areas so that one could store more particularly. That would save a certain amount of time that's consumed during long scrolls through resource storage. A good many housing mods don't take ease of use into account when it comes to crafting...and a lot of them do. Then there are some modders for whom ease of use seems to be an afterthought and they'll have a player running all over the place in order to get the job done. It's not that their mods aren't well done...technically they're superb (most of the time), however, in actual game use they're just awkward. My second key preference concerns accommodation of followers. I like lots of them, and I like for there to be sleeping accommodations for all of them. For me that usually means beds for at least eight to ten. (Yes, where practical I do take the field with that many.) So far, the only mods I've used that are designed to comfortably take care of that many are Ac3s Lakeview Extended, and Soulbladexs Sjel Blad Castle. There are undoubtedly others, but those are the two that I'm aware of. My third key preference is location. There're lots of great mods in ES Land, but only a certain number are in handy locations. Since I'm running vanilla Requiem, handy location is pretty important. Note, it should be reduced not only in distance from key areas but also reduced as far as threat goes. I would rather not be forced to fight my way into my home every time I want to pay a visit. In the land created by Requiem it takes several hours of game play before the average bandit and critter become reduced threats. Fourth, no matter how good a mod is, I'd rather not be forced to conduct a military campaign in order to live in it. That might be okay for something to do after one has completed all the in game quests but not at the beginning. Some of those campaigns are tough, tough, tough. Fifth, in-mod game cheats are not necessary. I kinda like to play the game the way I live in real life...no cheating. Okay, I ride Tumbaja's Sabre tooth cat. That's not much of a cheat, or not one at all if you're on him and he gets blindsided by an attacker. I've had him respond to an attack of that sort by going into a frenzied, snarling ball with me on him. I can't get off and usually get killed before he finally settles down. Sixth, in mods where there are pools, saunas, whatever, I really like it when followers remove their duds before going in the water. Taking a swim or bath while wearing a full suit of armor is just silly. Okay, all done for now.
  3. This looks to be a very promising mod. Seems to work well so far. Not currently using it 'cause waiting for final. WIP at this time. Supposed to have been an update today, but nothing shows on download. Anyone got any idea what's up with the final on this mod? Would really like to use it.
  4. Hey there, I've yet another idea for a mod, surprise surprise. I'm going to keep this one short and sweet. I've always thought that, as the Dragonborn, you'd want your family protected rather well. I went searching through the Skyrim Nexus and found fortifying mods for the houses that are available in Heartfire, but, as good as they were, they still did feel right for a DB that has saved the world. My idea is a simple one, I think. I'd like someone to add a questline that makes it so the owner of the home can build walls around and start their own little village, or an estate, that can be filled with new NPCs or old NPCs. It wouldn't be a big city like Whiterun or Solitude, or any of the hold cities really, but would still be on the map and known to the world. Some buildings to go up should be Weapon shop and smithyA small Inn and tavernA farm and stable (also where the cart driver would he housed)A general storehouses for the NPCsThese should be decently spaced out to make it less crowded, and a surrounding wall with patrolling guards would only be logical. So, has anyone done this? Or is there someone out there willing to take it on? Thanks for reading, Chaie
  5. Having Mörskom Estate Trouble? Updated 24/11/14 This forum post has been created for those who are having issues with Mörskom Estate. Although I, a co-author of the mod, have created this discusssion, I will not be taking part in it. This is simply a place for people to help each other out when experiencing problems with the mod. The most common thing is CTD which many are having. This is happening either because you have not read the documentation warning you of the mod's size and requirements or you have other issues with your mod list configuration. If you need help, this is the place to come and post it and see if others with more time on their hands can assist you. Be sure to leave links to details like load order or system specs but do not post 100+ line posts on these things as it's just going to clutter the forum post. Before you post an issue, be sure to read the full guide and check the rest of the mod's documentation to make sure that you have not missed anything. This forum post is to cut down the amount of unnecessarily repeated comment posts about the same old things on the mod page itself. Mod Page Official Guide Mod Article
  6. Excellent mod. Just as I imagine a somewhat rustic, hidden Samurai small hold would be laid out. Needs more storage in the form of a few chests in the crafting area and the static sword and armor displays would be better if made interactive. Lack of bedding for followers is a small shortcoming that can be compensated for through bedrolls dropped in the room or building of ones choice. Have a few select Blades followers that I'll be moving in with. Lack of storage in crafting area is gonna be a bit of a pain, other than that I'm gonna enjoy the mod.
  7. Technically excellent, with toons learning their way around with minimal difficulty. Architecturally very satisfying. Just as I would imagine a rugged mountain Ronin/Samurai retreat to look. Visually very pleasing. Accommodated three followers by putting bedrolls down in the bath house. More room in the dojo but no fireplace. May decide to use the floor in the front room instead. Great looking static displays of arms and armor, with very creative design of sword stands, etc. One or two chests will be sufficient for storage. Nice quarters in the basement for the three resident staff. Do keep the gates shut. Travelers will wander in.
  8. Technically, the Japan Lodge is excellent, particularly the window treatment and the sliding doors...very impressive. Takes a bit of familiarization but that comes with time. Does a great job of supporting the various religious interests in Skyrim. Visually very dynamic.
