I was thinking the other night of some way to increase my characters careering capacity, without breaking the believability too much. One thing I thought of, is the fact that the eyebots float, and so do the Mr. Handys. Now, neither of these items are using any type of engine, prop', or jet of any kind. This leads me to believe that they must be using either a magnetic field or a form of Anti-Gravity. If this is the case, why can't that technology be used in a backpack? This is the idea I came up with. In one of the areas that is doing military projects the player can find a set of blueprints to a prototype Military backpack that uses the anti-gravity technology. There are a few different types of pack in the blueprints. A couple of them have a set decrease in the weight of the items in the pack. For example one for a 50% decrease, a 100% decrease, and a 150% decrease. Using a 1, 2, or 3 Anti-grav units each (respectively) from either an eyebot or a Mr. Handy. Another is an adjustable field that can vary from 50% to 200%. Now to the limitations; The backpacks function as containers so they are not part of the PC's inventory. They have to place the pack on the ground to access them. (? Perhaps a perk can be added {maybe called - Master Packer: You are so proficient at packing a backpack that you always seem to pack the items you need the most last so they are always either on top or in the side pouches where you can just reach over your shoulder or behind your back to find just what you need.} This will allow them to access the pack without dropping it, and only costing X AP to do so [int based or Agl based.) They (MUST) use power-cells to power the Anti-Grav units. The power used by the packs is dependent on the weight decrees, as well as the weight in the pack. (optional rechargeable cells or using Repair Skill to improve power use). If the player runs out of power-cells then the full weight will be applied to the PC. (? perhaps to the point of immobility, where the PC will have to leave the pack where it is until they can get more power-cells)Example: the PC has an adjustable pack set at 200%. The PC can carry 350 lbs. They have 180 lbs in their inventory, so the pack can have a weight of 170 lbs. {adjusted}. (170 [ lbs. allowed weight] + 200% [pack setting] = 510 [actual weight of pack]). With the Anti-grav units set to the max of (200%) they will chew power like crazy so the player will need quite a few cells. If the PC runs out of cells the full weight of 510 lbs will be added making the amount they are carrying a total of 690 lbs. (180 lbs inventory) + (510 in the pack). In my opinion this amount should incapacitate the PC, so they will have to either empty the pack of 340 lbs or leave the pack and pick it up when the have the power-cells. Are there any Modders out their who think they can make this MOD? I think that it will go like hotcakes if it hits the Nexus. Because carry weight is the bane of the PC and this answers that problem with, what I feel, is a very good solution. That shouldn't brake the believability too much. if you like the idea and feel it can be made, throw me a bone and mention me in the description. LOL
