  1. So I'm posting here as a result of over a week's worth of frustrations and issues with Skyrim (the latest Steam version) and my attempts to mod it successfully. I recently decided to get back into Skyrim and having never had a PC capable of running it well until recently, I thought it was time to throw some mods in as well. Initially, I began added mods that improved the visuals of the game (textures, SMIM, W.A.T.E.R, fire effects etc) and dealt with numerous crashes, error messages and so forth until I achieved stability (or so I thought). Next, I moved into adding a few gameplay/immersion mods (Interesting NPCs, Cloaks of Skyrim etc) and have now discovered an issue that I've been unable to resolve with any methods I can think of. Every time I enter a relatively busy area (this has happened upon entering both Whiterun and Solitude but Dawnstar works fine), the game will freeze, staying that way for about 3-5 seconds before the screen turns black for a second. When the screen comes back on, the game is running like normal. This freeze, black screen process will continue intermittently until either I leave the busy area (sometimes it will continue no matter what) OR the game goes to a black screen and becomes unresponsive, forcing me to kill the process via. the task manager. I've tried various things, such as cleaning the master files via. TES5Edit, playing around with the load order in LOOT, trying different combinations of mods, running Skyrim in a compatibility mode, returning to a fresh install of the game and more. Currently, the mods I have in the game are (listed by load order as determined by LOOT): LOOT Log: Unofficial Skyrim Patch Unofficial Dawnguard Patch Unofficial Hearthfire Patch Unofficial Dragonborn Patch Lanterns of Skyrim - All In One Unofficial High Resolution Patch Interesting NPCs Cloaks of Skyrim - Dawnguard Enhanced Blood Textures Realistic Needs & Diseases Inconsequential NPCs Cloaks of Skyrim SMIM Frostfall Realistic Needs & Diseases (Hearthfire Patch) Camping Kit of the Northern Ranger Enhanced Blood Textures - Reduced Splatter Size Deadly Mutilation Enhanced Blood Textures - Dawnguard & Dragonborn Patch Realistic Needs & Diseases - USKP Patch Realistic Needs & Diseases - Dawnguard Patch Realistic Needs & Diseases - Dragonborn Patch SkyUI Alternate Start - Live Another Life This is all running on a system with an i7-4770k, GTX780 3GB and 16GB DDR3 RAM on Windows 8.1. I've been using SKSE to run Skyrim and have the 'memory patch' set to: [Memory]DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768ScrapHeapSizeMB=256 As you can probably tell by the mod list, I'm running Skyrim with all of the official DLCs and the High Resolution Textures from Bethesda. If there's any further information that's needed, please let me know. I'm desperate to work out what the hell is going on here and how I can fix it.
  2. About 6 months ago i purchased a new pc build in order to improve skyrim performance. going from a measly old Amd athlon processor to an Amd fx8350 (@4.5ghz) and from a radeon 5770 to a radeon r9 290. Note, I am not a fan of AMD, but at the time, these parts happened to be on offer and made any other purchase look silly in terms of price to performance. Of course the performance was a massive jump, but perhaps not quite as much as I had hoped for. My question is, I have heard that skyrim can be fairly unkind to AMD users (is this true?) and so would like to ask on behalf of myself and a friend and myself (in the future) what pc specs fellow skyrim users would pick if they were to build the "ultimate" skyrim gaming pc? And yes i do know people have different preferences and loyalties, but its a simple question, and one which might help a great many people looking to at least get somewhere near skyrim in-game bliss even when a hefty amount of mods and textures are installed. So....A friend recently asked me, if he had roughly £2000 ($3000) and wanted to build a computer purely to play Skyrim and install an OVERKILL amount of mods, what should he get? I want to point out that although it could be said that money is not a big factor in this, i would rather edge towards a 'within reason' budget, aka not including 10k 2x intel xeon with 4 way sli style computers which are out of reach for the majority of people. The last reason I ask is because it may answer my separate question of whether i should switch to Intel processors (and which type the Haswell-E or the Haswell?) for my own Skyrim playthroughs because I also dream of playing skyrim with ALMOST EVERY highest res texture installed and a gargantuan amount of mods installed (merged to avoid the 255 limit of course!). Many Thanks for any help
  3. Hi all, Myself and a friend have recently been attempting to totally overhaul Skyrim through the use of an extreme amount of mods. After a few weeks of testing and editing and sorting and merging etc we have a pretty extensive overhaul (gameplay-wise) that I think changes nearly every aspect of the game and makes playing it feel like new. Naturally it is to our own personal tastes but we were going to publish it somewhere so that it may help other with similar designs and intentions for skyrim in the future. However... We've tested the game for many hours and been to most places on the map without a single CTD, BUT Neither of us ever play as a thief character or have much time for the city of Riften so purely by chance, we managed to forget about it altogether when testing and just assumed that because everywhere else (literally the other 95% of the map we tested) receives 0 CTD's that it would be fine. SO...I was about to post the modlist and small guide online when I thought bugger it I will go have a mess around in Riften and cause some havok. Problem is....I can't get there.....I enabled borders to display in the Skyrim console and whenever I cross the border within which the Riften City Cell is located, the game immediately crashes to Desktop. Furthermore I have tried this from every angle, approaching from any and all directions and it always crashes immeditaly upon crossing the border. I have coc'd to Riften and can walk around the actual city itself fine, so there doesn't seem to be a problem with Riften's actual inner city (which at the moment is a merged combination of Dawn Of Riften and Jk's Riften). Does anyone have any clue of what might cause this, or a method of further testing that I may have missed. Naturally I don't expect anyone to want to sift through what is a very very long modlist (it is designed to be for the tutorial). but if anyone might have had similar issues and found a mod responsible then that would be a great help as it will literally takes days maybe even weeks to sift through every single mod in my modlist at the moment (not least because some are merged and edited). I will post the current list that I muck about on just in case anyone wants a look, but its not the final list for the tutorial i would later be posting online because it only contains the stuff I personally like to playthrough with. I imagine the eventual tutorial will contain 500 plugins merged down to 250 (Not including Graphics mods, which are to each individual persons tastes). http://modwat.ch/jamtem#/plugins The list^ is pretty script heavy, but seems to function in most places, though naturally requires a farily decent setup (i7 4790k w/ 980gtx OC). Thanks for any help provided
  4. Already posted in Tech Support, but I think this might be the appropriate area to ask this. My System: Asus GTX 770, clocks at 1306 MHz Intel 4770k clocked at 4.4 GHz 16 gb 2400 MHz G. Skill Trident X Asus Hero VI Mobo, Azza 1000W Platinum PSU, Samsung 256gb 840 Pro, Windows 8 Pro CPU and the GPU never go above 60 degrees. Problem: I have tried multiple different texture mods: Skyrim HD 2k, Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack, Skyrim Realistic Texture Overhaul, and all of them are causing me random HUGE FPS drops outdoors. My game pretty much never goes below 59 FPS, but in areas with large amounts of mountain rock my fps will drop heavily, to what is probably less than 1 FPS. I have tried turning off all of my mods and keeping the texture mods on and the problem will still occur, I have verified the integrity of the game cache multiple times, uninstalled and re-installed multiple times, but the problem persists. I use project ENB. I have actually never tried running the texture mods with the ENB off, but I couldn't imagine this being the problem. My vram doesn't go above 1.7 Gb, and my system should absolutely be able to handle what I am giving it. Does anyone have any ideas about a solution? I have the most recent drivers possible. I am actually not sure if this was occurring when I initially put this rig together, prior to updating my drivers, but I think I would have noticed if it only started occurring directly after updating my drivers. Though I could have updated my drivers and spent time playing Bioshock and The Witcher 2. I guess I can try reverting to old drivers, but I already wrote all of this out so I'm going to see if there are any possible known solutions to this problem.
