So,.... High End Gaming laptops, on a delivery deadline?

Recommended Posts

Check the specs on your laptop on the BB website, or on the manufacturer's site.  I bet there are answered questions in each that specifically ask about SSD compatibility.  The connection interface will be the primary consideration, followed by power consumption (idle/peak) and the amount of storage you think you will need.  I know that there are many places that review SSD, but I am partial to Guru3D.com, which, BTW, is a European sited concern (Germany, I think).  Might get some insights on other stuff related to your comp there.

Hey,I been looking at extra SSDs to drop into my computer. 😀

But I am unsure what is compatible.

Can you school me a bit or link me a recommendation? For the hassle of upgrading and breaking the warranty seal I think I want to add 4T.

I have no idea how to do this, but we have some of the best electronics technicians in the East Coast at my work and I am buddies with some of them so I am confident I can sweet talk one of them to do it (even though many are on the road right now ). I would not want to hassle them with building me an entire computer but this I this would be ok.

I think I want to do this now, or at least buy the SSD, before I get to Europe since everyhting is more expensive there. The Local Best Buy seems to have several in stock.

What mainboard do you have?? It's pretty recent, so, I would expect it has at least two M2 slots on it, or those in use yet??

Based on the youtube video I say about the computer (or actually last years model, reviews and how-tos are very thin since this model only came out 4 weeks ago) There are two slots. One is used by the factory and one is vacant.

This is the exact computer on the manufacturers website:

And here is a yotuube video on how ot replace (or rather add) a new SSD to  it (but its last years model the -13VG)

Thank you Sir. I will go and check it out.

Well, it doesn't talk about an extra slot, but, looking at the pic you posted, it does indeed seem like there is room for two. if that is indeed the case, I would just pick up one of the Samsung Evo 980 4TB NVME fellers, and install that. Make it one big partition, and call it a day. 🙂 Install all your games on that drive. No heat sink on the drive though, I suspect there won't be room. 😄

I must confess I did not understand 100% of your answer:

-"make it one big partition" So yolu mean I cna combine the 2 drives into one kinda?

-"no heat sink on the drive" . would that be bad?

Maybe I should leave well enough alone for now and just carefully manage my save bloat that is sure to come.

Nah, just make the 4TB drive one large partition.

You can buy the drives with, or without, heatsinks. Given how thin that laptop is, I doubt there would be room for a heatsink. The manufacturer likely has some variety of heat absorbing pad that sits UNDER the drive, instead of wrapping it.

My O/S drive does not have a heat sink. I have zero heat related issues with it, and it sits right above that toasty warm video card. 😄

Update have not added any memory yet.

Everything running fine.

Set up one Vortex profile working and tested just with my "essential" 200 mods on fallout 4, plus a  2nd profilewith same 200 plus a dozen or so AAF/LL mods (havent tested that one yet)

Still feel I am missing some "nice to haves" since my normal mods list is 300+ but I can play like this.

The laptop runs great, during testing I took my character to a location that gives my desktop (i9 10900KF, 64 GB DDR4 RAM, SSD, RTX 4070) some noticable slowdown (when I stand in front of and look at a giant hotel mod on spectacle Island) and it seems unaffected.

This is the spot:
