"Why am I not seeing the results?" That's the imposter thought I have among my high-profile connections. I see what they share and think my content is 'up there' with theirs. But it doesn't get the same engagement. That makes me doubt myself and what I say. But I keep going. Is it tenacity? Determination? Or bloody-mindedness? I don't know. If you're reading this, my message to you is this: feal the fear (or doubt) and do it anyway.

Imposter syndrome hits hard, especially when you're surrounded by brilliant people. But here's the thing, you have to tell yourself you belong in those circles. Remind yourself of your wins and qualification. Keep a little list of achievements in your head to remind yourself. When doubt creeps in, revisit the list and remind yourself what a badass you are. Reframe negative thoughts by telling yourself "I'm still learning, but look how far I've come, and these people also started at zero just like me." Speak up anyway. Even if you're nervous, sharing your insights will validate your expertise. You're an expert of your own experience. We all feel out of place sometimes, but pushing through the fear builds your confidence for next time.

I've switched both countries and careers in the past. Each transition threw me into new cultures where I didn't know the rules. Each culture has it's ranking process and ignores or even has contempt for capabilities outside its horizon. So yes I've felt like an imposter. However, it's important to proceed with a spirit of curiosity & adventure - that makes your 'ignorance' a virtue, at least for a while. I found ways to make my different perspective valuable, by using insights from other parts of my life. Finally, you are there for a reason. The imposter syndrome arises when you 'forget' this. You're in the new position because you have a capability you take for granted, but is distinctive and powerful. Nurture it.

I personally don't. Try to remember that high-profile execs are just people. They started somewhere, too, and most appreciate genuine connections over perfect ones. Focus on what you bring to the table—your skills, experiences, and perspective are valuable. Instead of trying to impress, aim to learn and share. Ask questions, listen actively, and don't be afraid to show curiosity. Everyone has gaps in their knowledge, even the execs. So, don't see yourself as an imposter. See yourself as someone with unique insights and room to grow. Confidence comes from knowing you're there to connect, not to prove yourself.

It’s normal to feel like an imposter among high-profile connections in your network. Here are a few strategies to help you overcome these feelings: 1. Acknowledge your accomplishments. Take time to reflect on your achievements and the hard work that got you there. 2. Challenge and reframe negative thoughts. Instead of thinking, “I don’t belong here,” try thinking, "I have valuable insights to share". 3. Connect with peers, mentors, or a trusted friend who can offer encouragement and perspective. 4. Practice self-compassion. Understand that everyone makes mistakes and has moments of self-doubt. 5. Step out of your comfort zone. Push yourself to take on new challenges, even if they feel intimidating. Each success will build your confidence.
