When your presentation slides freeze during a live event, humor can help you regain control and keep the audience engaged. You might say, "Looks like even my slides needed a break!" or, "Well, I guess the slides wanted to leave you in suspense!" This lightens the mood and shows you're not rattled by technical issues. You can then smoothly pivot by saying, "Good thing I know this by heart," and continue with your presentation. Humor reassures the audience, helps you stay in command, and keeps the focus on your message rather than the mishap.

(modifié)Important to have contingencies in such live events/ webinars. Few pointers according to situation/ personal preference. 1. Seeking support to share slides, so we could focus as a presenter and engage the audience in event of technical challenges 2. Seeking support on backup sharing 3. Seeking support on backup speaker/ emcee to engage audience

During a live event, my presentation slides unexpectedly froze, and I quickly realized that technical issues could derail the momentum. I calmly acknowledged the glitch to the audience, assuring them it was a minor hiccup. Instead of waiting idly, I shifted to delivering the key points verbally, engaging the audience with questions and inviting their insights. This kept the energy flowing and allowed me to reinforce important content without relying on the slides. Once the issue was resolved, I smoothly transitioned back to the visuals, but the experience taught me that maintaining composure and focusing on interaction can keep the audience engaged, regardless of technical challenges.

“If my slides freeze during a live event, I take it as a sign that it's time for an unscheduled intermission! But seriously, I’d use humor to keep the energy up: 'Looks like even the slides are speechless!' Then, I'd shift to storytelling or ask the audience questions to keep them engaged while the tech gets sorted. The goal is to stay calm, adapt, and show that no technical hiccup can stop the flow!"

It was a debate competition in college on democracy and there was a power cut. I kept continue by saying "even the power is not allowing us to discuss this" Audience were in laughs and I could continue. Yes, this is not as easy as said. You need to have good command over your content to continue. Power, ppt or podium are just facilitators while you are the real speaker. Keep confident and acknowledge the situation. Show them that you are unstoppable and independent. You may also keep hard copies if it relates to some technical things. I remember one speaker who was expert of business restructure talked without AC and fan to professional audience for 2 hours full of sweat. Will will find a way !
