🦋 💪 If we aim for deforestation-free supply chains, biodiversity conversation & sustainable development, it is crucial to integrate gender aspects into financial mechanisms. This is what our Senior Analyst Sofia Helena Zanella Carra, PhD discussed with Indigenious women leaders at the #COP16 “Women, Finance & Forests” event, organised by Climate & Company, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (SAFE project) Post2020 Biodiversity Framework - EU support on 27 October at the Women's Pavilion. The event featured an inspiring dialogue with Indigenous women leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), who shared the challenges they face in accessing financial resources. Here's three key issues raised among others: 💡 There is limited financial literacy and there is urgent necessity for accessible language in financial communications 💡To empower women in leadership roles, financial support is crucial 💡Tailor-made financial mechanisms are needed with requirements that reflect the realities of these communities We would like to thank the incredible Indigenous women leaders who joined the session and shared their views and demands. Their insights will contribute to a broader assessment currently underway within our ongoing projects. ➡ More info on the GIZ SAFE project: https://lnkd.in/dCxpYbd3 ➡ More info on the G20 project Sustainable Finance for Nature & People: https://lnkd.in/dmHXbmFe supported by Post2020 Biodiversity Framework - EU support and funded by the European Union. #sustainablefinance #forests #biodiversity #disclosure #ForNature #ForPeople #G20Brasil #COP16Colombia #BiodiversityPlan #CBDWomen Hugo Rivera, Nicolas Thomas, Corinne Brunois

Through interactive discussions, we explored how knowledge systems, community practices, and the insights of Indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, and local communities - especially women - can drive transformative change in agri-food production, distribution, and consumption. Key takeaways: 🔹 Collaboration with farmers is crucial for deepening agri-food system transformations. 🔹 Building synergies between farmers and researchers will amplify these efforts. 🔹 Respect for traditional food and culinary practices plays an essential role in sustainable development.
