It was a pleasure to welcome Marco-Alexander Breit to our site in Ottobrunn, Germany on 21 October. 🤗 ArianeGroup CEO Martin Sion and Pierre Godart, CEO of ArianeGroup GmbH, showed the Deputy Director General for Aerospace, Maritime Industry, Security and Defence Industries at the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz our competence centre for liquid propulsion in Germany. 🚀 Mr Breit visited our production facilities for thrust chambers and engine components for rocket and satellite propulsion systems. Head of site Gerald Hagemann and colleagues explained the manufacturing processes of the #Ariane6 engine thrust chambers and valves and showed how we use innovative high-performance composite materials and 3D printing technologies. For children, the world is brimming with magic, and our #Arionauts are on a mission to reveal the science behind the wonders of space. 🚀 Our #RocketMakers visit schools and kindergartens during World Space Week to show that dreams of space are not just fantasies – they are real and achievable. Jens, Test Data Processing and Analysis Engineer from Lampoldshausen, Germany, shares his experience: “During my visit to a kindergarten, I introduced the basics about space and the technology that gets us there. Children often discover the wonders of space through the media, where it remains a distant dream. Our #Arionauts turn those dreams into reality by engaging directly with students in schools. During #WorldSpaceWeek, our ambassadors – the Arionauts – in France and Germany visited classrooms to ignite curiosity in young minds about space and the science of rockets. But their involvement goes beyond this global event. For instance, Sylvie, an Ariane 6 Quality Programme Manager at our Saint-Médard-en-Jalles site in France, participated in a school project entitled “From Earth to the Stars” after a local teacher visited the ArianeGroup site and was so impressed with the work of our #RocketMakers that he decided to set up the space project for his students. She shares: “I spent two hours with the pupils, sharing my experiences. Their curiosity was palpable, as evidenced by the nearly 100 questions they eagerly asked.” Space started as a dream for all of us. ✨We are delighted to announce that #ArianeGroup’s Ariane 6 Programme Director François Deneu was today (17 October) awarded the #BAAS Special Prize at the 4th Bordeaux Métropole Aerospace Summit in recognition of the expertise, commitment and passion that made the first flight of Europe’s new launcher a success. This annual event, organised by #BordeauxMétropole and #LaTribune and held at the heart industrial ecosystem of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in south-west France, centre of excellence for aerospace and defense, brings together industry leaders, researchers, students and the general public to discuss the major challenges in the sector. The 2024 Summit took as its focus innovation, both in technological and human and societal terms. Innovation underpins all Ariane 6’s design, development, manufacture and operation. The award of this prestigious Bordeaux Aquitaine Aerospace Association prize is a great honour for all of ArianeGroup’s #RocketMakers. François’ exemplary leadership has been inspiring throughout the programme, and he is the first to acknowledge that #Ariane6 🚀 is an incredible collective human adventure, involving 13,000 people in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and northern France, Germany and the other participating European countries. Before taking on the role of Programme Director for Ariane 6, François was head of another crucial ArianeGroup programme, the strategic M51 missile. His consciousness of the importance of the team was a significant driver in this project too. On 16 October, ArianeGroup participated in the 4th European Defence and Security Conference in Brussels. This event brought together key European institutional and industrial stakeholders for in-depth discussions on the strategic, technological and industrial challenges of defence cooperation in Europe. As #Europe faces escalating conflicts on its doorstep, fostering comprehensive understanding and collaboration across Europe’s political and industrial landscape is paramount. Cécilia Matissart, ArianeGroup’s Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, emphasised the inherent link between defence and space. In terms of both policy and capability, space has to be considered as an essential dimension of defence and security. Our 8,000 #RocketMakers embody this vision of duality to support Europe’s strategic autonomy – from #Ariane6, enabling the launch of European flagship missions, to our leading role in European Defence Fund projects, such as SAURON and EMISSARY for space situational awareness and ODIN’S EYE for missile early warning, which are building up European ambition for space. Jens Schroeter, Head of Public Affairs Germany, also took part in a panel with members of the European Parliament. He underlined the importance of clear policy guidelines and a higher level of ambition for space and defence in the European Union’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). These are crucial for maintaining the relevance of the European industrial base in the coming years. How can #Europe secure a leading role in the future of the #SpaceIndustry? Should we embrace greater risk-taking, or tighten risk control? This pivotal question framed yesterday’s discussion at the CAIA Colloquium in Paris, where our Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, Cécilia Matissart, highlighted Europe's unique position in the space sector. She emphasised the need for Europe to go its own way and leverage its strengths rather than following others. At ArianeGroup, we #RocketMakers believe in the versatility of the #Ariane6 launcher system and its potential for continuous evolution, with ARIANESPACE offering customised launch services with flexible payload capacities as well as in the European reusable mini-launcher, Maia, developed by ArianeGroup’s subsidiary, MaiaSpace, using an agile approach and risk culture thanks to its "test & learn" development approach. This is crucial as we transform European space mobility with a focus on reusable and re-entry technologies, drawing on our extensive heritage from both civil and defence programmes to innovate and lead, based on the duality of our business model.
