ASCEND Project
Administration publique
EU funded project Accelerating poSitive Clean ENergy Districts in Europe.
À propos
ASCEND is a Horizon Europe implementation project Accelerating poSitive Clean ENergy Districts in Europe. The project aims to make Positive Clean Energy Districts a routine occurrence to mitigate the effects of climate change and enable citizens to live in inclusive, resilient, and smart communities. With active engagement and actions in two Lighthouse Cities - Lyon and Munich - and six Multiplier Cities - Alba Iulia, Charleroi, Budapest, Porto, Prague, and Stockholm - ASCEND covers a large diversity of districts such as city centres, urban outskirts, ageing residential areas, or industrial brownfields. They all set out to build Positive Clean Energy Districts incorporating active citizenship, building smart energy grids and zero-carbon frugal buildings, decarbonising public spaces and enabling smart mobility and digital tools. All these pillars revolve around an 'urban orchestrator’ - a public entity aggregating all components and services of a PCED - that helps implement long-lasting changes at district level beyond the length of the project. In ASCEND this connection is made even stronger, as each pillar of the PCED will be connected to the urban orchestrator through a federating digital platform and a 'human network' gathering all local stakeholders.

🌟 In September, the PIC (Partenariat d’Innovations de la Confluence) held its annual meeting with its 70 partners to look back and reflect on experiences shared over the past 12 months on 4 themes: energy performance of buildings 🌆 , energy ⚡ , mobility of people and goods 🚢 and public space 🏞. In terms of energy performance of buildings, a performance target of 100kWh/m2/year for new construction is being put in place, while continuing to look at how to renew heritage buildings 🏫. There is also a focus on building energy communities that produce and share their own energy 🌅 such as from photovoltaic panels which have the capacity to produce 6.5 MWp. In La Confluence, a pilot project aims to develop replicable river logistics to help reduce greenhouse gases emitted by the transport sector in France. Lastly, La Confluence is tackling refreshing and greening public spaces. One particular project in the historic district of Sainte-Blandine is being undertaken with the ASCEND Project to help redevelop public spaces into neighbourhoods that share a common identity ✨ . The session, facilitated by Rosalía Simón de Lama and Jonatan Viejo from CARTIF, explored how cities can implement circular economy practices in their built environments. 🔍 Challenges: • Circularity vs. Regulations: Building and insurance standards can conflict with circular construction practices. • Procurement Barriers: Public procurement processes need adaptation to prioritize circular materials and practices. 📌 Takeaways: • Circularity from Design: Circular economy principles must be integrated from the early design phase to ensure sustainable building practices. • Leading Examples: Porto already requires 10% recycled materials in public tenders, setting a precedent for circular procurement. 💬 QUOTE: “It was inspiring to collectively brainstorm with ASCEND cities on innovative solutions that can be implemented within the cities’ project locations... The potential role of having green public procurement can offer a high impact via standardising application requirements of circular approaches.” – Almos Papp, Budapest 📄 For more details, see the attached document. #ASCEND #EnergyEfficientBuildings #CircularEconomy #OnsiteRES #CommunityOfPractice #SustainableDevelopment #Innovation #Collaboration #CityDevelopment #CommunitiesOfPractice #SP3 🚀 Eduardo Blanco, Sebastián Oviedo, Energy Cities, Baptiste Mougeot, Etienne Vignali, Andreas Baernreuther, Dr. Stefan Synek, Selina Lorenz, Laura Dieguez, Michal Kuzmic, Jana Vanicka Civinova, Denisa Pevná, Ana Isabel Silva, Adeeb Sidani, Kinga Lőcsei-Tóth, Philippe Fournand, Veronika Cerna, BKK - Budapesti Közlekedési Központ, Czech Technical University in Prague, OICT, Pražská developerská společnost, LYON CONFLUENCE, Métropole de Lyon, Urban Practices, Stadtwerke München GmbH, Technical University of Munich, Isarwatt eG, AVANCIS GmbH, Spectrum Mobil GmbH, UnternehmerTUM, AdEPorto - Agência de Energia do Porto, Águas do Porto, EM, Porto Digital
