🛡 Axeleo Capital (AXC) 9th Edition of the Cybersecurity Index 🛡 Here are the key takeaways from our Q3 2024 Cybersecurity Index: 📉 Funding Trends in Q3 2024: Seasonal Decline In Q3 2024, total funds raised saw a sharp decline compared to the previous quarter, which is typical for Q3 due to the summer slowdown. 🏆 Top Deals of the quarter Leading the pack, Exein secured €15M in Series B funding as it works to set the global standard for embedded cybersecurity. Hot on their heels, Dfns raised $13.5M to boost password protection for crypto wallets. Finally, Brussels-based Soda rounded out the top three with €12.9M to fuel its expansion of data quality solutions in the US market. 🇮🇹 Italy and the United Kingdom Accounted for Over Half of Q3 Deals 🇬🇧 Italy took the lead with 4 deals, raising a total of €30M. Highlights include Exein’s $15M Series B to stop robotic arms from malfunctioning, and Cubbit’s €12.5M for a geo-distributed cloud storage solution. The UK also saw 4 deals, with cybersecurity startups raising €20M in total. Leading the charge was CultureAI with a $10M Series A to transform human risk management, followed by Tracebit’s $5M to expand its intrusion detection canary technology. Estonia-based Patchstack also joined the ranks, raising $5M in Series A funding for its open-source cybersecurity tool. 🐣 Early-Stage Startups Decline Continuing the trend from recent months, early-stage funding rounds (Pre-seed and Seed) have slowed significantly, dropping from 31 in Q3 2023 to just 7 this quarter. Early-stage deals now account for 58% of total activity, a noticeable drop from the usual average of around 75% seen in previous quarters. 📊 Most Active Sectors in Q3 Despite the lower number of deals this quarter, several sectors saw notable activity. In Identity & Access Management, 🇩🇰 Uniqkey raised $5.5M for its password and access management solution. In Application Security, 🇫🇷 Patrowl.io secured €11M for its offensive security-as-a-service platform. 🛡 Axeleo Capital (AXC) 8th Edition of the Cybersecurity Index 🛡 Here are the key takeaways from our Q2 2024 Cybersecurity Index: 📈 Funding Trends Thrive In Q2 2024, the total funds raised remained consistent with the previous quarter but were nearly 40% lower than the levels seen in 2023. 🐳 Fewer Rounds, Larger Deals Q2 2024 saw fewer rounds than the previous quarter 40 vs 17 but an increase in average deal size. Leading the quarter, the Irish no-code automation startup Tines raised €47M in a Series B round. PQShield, the company specializing in post-quantum cryptography (PQC), followed with a nearly €35M Series B. In third place, Onum secured €20M in a Series A round for its data observability and orchestration platform. 🇬🇧 United Kingdom's Dominance The United Kingdom stands out by leading with eight deals and securing €64M in funding. Notably, PQShield, just mentioned, raised €34.5M in a Series B round, while Cynomi raised €18.7M in a Series A round. 🐣 Early-Stage Startups Decline Although the total number of deals has significantly declined, the sharpest drop occurred in early-stage rounds (Pre-seed and Seed), decreasing from 31 to 9. These early-stage deals now account for 59% of the total, which is 32% less than the average early-stage deals over the past three quarters. 🚀 Active Sectors in Q2 The most active sector this quarter was Threat & Actor Intelligence, accounting for 22% of the deals. Key investments included Lunio, BforeAI (Series A - €14M), WhiteBridge.ai (Seed) and OnSecurity (Series A - €6.5M). Following closely, the Blockchain/Web 3 Security sector represented 17% of the deals, featuring Cavero Quantum (Seed - €2.6M), PQShield (Series B - €34.5M) and Q*BIRD B.V.
