Keeping tech 📱 out of landfills and money in your wallet since 2014 🤑 Tech Reborn.

À propos

Founded in 2014 by Thibaud Hug de Larauze, Quentin Le Brouster, and Vianney Vaute, Back Market is a global marketplace for premium refurbished electronics. We’re here to help make refurbished tech trustworthy, reliable, and affordable. As a certified B-Corp, Back Market’s mission is to do more with what we already have. Because, well, what we already have is pretty great. That’s why all the tech you find on Back Market is better than new — because not only is it in perfect working condition, independent scientific research shows that refurbished electronics have a significantly smaller footprint on the environment than brand new. Every time someone chooses refurbished tech, we avoid additional environmental impact on the planet. Of course, it’s not just about the tech sold by sellers on our marketplace, it’s also about how we run our business — we hold ourselves to high standards when it comes to our own sustainability practices, too. We work across the refurbishment industry to develop new technologies, support environmental initiatives related to electronic waste (e-waste), and work with local governments across the globe to pass legislation that supports sustainability and the Right to Repair in the tech industry. We know we’re not alone in our vision for a world where tech respects the planet. With 884M€ raised to date and over 10 million customers around the world, we’re well on our way to the joyful revolution of Tech Reborn. It’s #GlobalRecyclingDay, and we need to talk about e-waste. Too much old tech is piling up in drawers or heading straight to landfills - and that’s a problem. The fix? Better education and clear guidelines to help consumers reuse, resell, or refurbish their tech instead of discarding it. That’s where our Trade-In programme comes in. Turn your old tech into something useful - for you, for someone else, and for the planet ♻️. Because the future of tech isn’t in the trash, it’s in the circular economy. Running a refurbished tech marketplace out of a storefront disguised as a plumbing shop? Very on-brand for us. Thibaud Hug de Larauze sat down with Paris Match to share the Back Market story. From a bold idea in 2014 when the market for refurbished tech was near non-existent, to 15 million customers, 18 countries, and 700 employees. Throughout this journey, our mission has always been the same: make refurbished tech the new normal. How? By building the most rigorous marketplace for refurbished electronics and working with 1,800 carefully vetted refurbishers, giving another life to devices. Over the years, we’ve expanded far beyond smartphones, offering nearly 200 product categories. Now, with profitability in sight, we're sharpening our focus and proving that sustainability and business success can go hand in hand. Huge thanks to Alexandre Ferret at Paris Match for covering our story. Read the full article below 👇 #BackMarket #RefurbishedTech #CircularEconomy #SustainableTech #ParisMatch

Retro tech isn’t just a trend - it’s a movement. Our latest UK survey shows that nearly half (45%) of consumers are planning to buy a vintage device in the future, and for 43%, it’s all about nostalgia. Because the best tech doesn’t need to be brand new - it just needs a second life. ♻️ Simplicity, style, and sustainability? Now that’s a comeback. #RetroTech #FixDontDitch #TechNostalgia #CircularEconomy #BackMarket

Who says new tech is always better? 📸🎶 Retro tech is having a serious moment, and the numbers prove it. Our audio equipment category has skyrocketed by 123% YoY since 2016, led by the unstoppable return of record players. But it's not just vinyl. Compact digital cameras, iPods, and PS2s are back in the game, showing that nostalgia isn’t just a trend - it’s shaping mainstream culture. The best part? Old-school tech isn’t just iconic; it’s the most sustainable choice. 🌿 Check out the full articles in the comments! #RetroTech #Sustainability #BackMarket

More than half of UK households have old tech sitting around unused. For nearly 19%, that number jumps to six or more. That’s a whole lot of forgotten screens and chargers piling up in drawers across the country.📱💨 Instead of letting devices gather dust, why not turn them into cash? With Back Market’s Trade-In program, you can easily sell your old tech, give it a second life, and put some extra money in your pocket—all while helping to reduce e-waste. ♻️ Check out our latest feature with NationalWorld to learn more. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gi8hp-eH #BackMarket #RefurbishedTech #TradeIn #CircularEconomy

What happens to old billboards once they come down? In this case - they get a second life. 🌱 We teamed up with Patrick Vernuccio (The Frenchie Gardener) and Life After Ad to turn a former Peckham billboard, just like our giant banner at Trinité in Paris, into upcycled grow bags, now helping Hackney City Farm and supporting urban gardening across London. This project is all about circularity - taking materials that would have become waste and turning them into something that benefits both the planet and local communities. And it couldn’t come at a better time. Our research found that 73% of inner-city kids in London see more wildlife on screens than in real life. But despite limited outdoor space, parents are stepping up - teaching sustainability through small, everyday actions. It’s proof that big change starts with simple choices. 🌎 #TechReborn #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #UrbanGardening #BackMarket

How do we build truly circular supply chains? On February 5th, our Chief Commercial Officer, Martin Huegli, took the stage at CCS Insight’s Circular Markets event in Paris to tackle this critical question. Martin and fellow panelists explored why industry-wide collaboration is essential to making circularity work. While demand for second-hand devices continues to rise, the market still faces challenges in scaling efficiently, especially when it comes to streamlining supply chains and ensuring consistent quality. The key takeaway? No single company can solve this alone. Progress depends on businesses working together to create a structured, transparent, and scalable ecosystem. Circularity is at the heart of what we do, and events like this are key to driving change. A big thanks to CCS Insight for bringing together industry leaders, and to our sellers who make this ecosystem possible! ♻️ #CircularEconomy #BackMarket #Sustainability #RefurbishedTech #CircularSupplyChains

🪴 When ads get a second life. Remember our giant banner at Trinité in Paris? Its journey didn’t end there. With Life After Ad and Patrick Vernuccio Thefrenchiegardener, it’s been upcycled into grow bags for the rooftop of Ferme Suzanne, an urban farm in Paris by CULTURES EN VILLE. These bags now host shrubs, aromatic herbs, and vegetables, bringing a breath of biodiversity to the city. Even the soil is on its second life, made from local compost and substrates previously used to grow mushrooms in Paris. Upcycling is more than just an eco-friendly gesture; it’s about creating essential urban green spaces and proving that every action counts towards building more sustainable cities. #Upcycling #EcoFriendly #SecondLife #UrbanFarming

I’m incredibly proud to say that this year’s Black Friday was the strongest sales day in Back Market's 10 year history! This massive, record-breaking day resulted in Back Market and our customers avoiding 3,688 tonnes of CO2 emissions through the sale of Verified Refurbished tech vs. new. The entire week was a huge success, with sales up 30% globally. As an “impact by design” company, we understand that the bigger our sales are, the lower our collective impact is on the environment. For a long time, we avoided Black Friday promotions, because of the day’s typical focus on overconsumption. But this year, we decided to lean in and prove to more people that buying quality, Verified Refurbished technology is the right decision for the planet and their wallets. Black Friday on Back Market was also a big win for the circular economy with the launch of our Shake to Trade-in feature in the US and Europe that helped drive a 35% increase in trade-ins globally. Traded-in devices are the raw material of the circular economy. Each traded-in unit contributes to avoiding further extraction from earth. Lets keep scaling this in order to stop any additional extraction! Congratulations to the entire team at Back Market, and a massive thank you to everyone who’s joined us on our journey to changing the way the world buys tech. #BackMarket #BlackFriday #RefurbishedTech
