This innovative biofuel cell, made from paper, carbon, and enzymes, converts sugars and oxygen into electricity, providing a compostable and recyclable energy solution. This addresses the environmental issue of battery disposal, with 15 billion primary batteries discarded annually worldwide. What if... we could generate electricity with paper? It turns out you can. I did this illustration to share in a simple way the great work done by Jules Hammond Dr. Marie R. Berthuel and all the great entrepreneurs of BeFC Bioenzymatic Fuel Cells . They got the buy in to transform their ideas into reality! Small batteries are terrible source of pollution. Every year billions of single use batteries are disposed, often times burnt. Welcome Manon! Manon graduated in 2016 from Mines of Nancy in the field of material science & engineering and from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (EPFL) in biomaterials. During her thesis she developed a lab on a chip to numerate cancer cells with magneto-resistant sensors. She then continued with a post doctorate at the CNRS in Paris where she developed a microfabricated chip to culture and observe adherent cancerous cells. From 2021 to 2023 she worked for Epilab, a startup based in Palaiseau, as the head of R&D to develop a new point of care diagnostic tool for tuberculosis. After a brief experience in CEA/Leti where she designed a microfluidic chip for single cell analysis, she joined BeFC. #microfluidics #research #innovate #befc
