Adipose tissue plays a crucial role in metabolic diseases such as diabetes or obesity. Recapitulating in vitro its intricate structure is key for the identification of new potential treatments. In our latest results, adipose tissue organoids were cultured from Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) cells. These primary cells obtained from subcutaneous biopsies were seeded and cultured in a 19 microwells (4Dcell SmartSphero Plates). Our protocol uniquely leads to the formation of small unilocular human adipose cells and all cell-type viable for 28 days. 🙏 🍒 This is another milestone for Cherry Biotech in the long-term development of new companion diagnostic for breast cancer and personalized medicine. We announce the strengthening of our collaboration with Gustave Roussy to improve patient care through personalized treatments. Our joint work has several long-term objectives: 1️⃣ Evaluate and deliver the most effective treatment (patient benefice) for each patient and each cancer subtype. 2️⃣ Develop new cancer biomarkers assays predictive of treatment relapse. 3️⃣ Propose an alternative to animal experimentation for the application of personalized medicine. Why is this work important? Today, breast cancer affects 2.3 million people worldwide, 99% of whom are women. Although it is one of the best-treated cancers, with a 5-year life expectancy of 85%, some of the most aggressive subtypes do not respond to treatment or have relapse rates that are still too high. We will be working specifically with Dr. Pierre Savagner on Luminal B breast cancer. Luminal B breast cancer accounts for around 25% of all breast cancers. It is an aggressive, fast-growing cancer with one of the highest relapse rates (36%). To improve patient care, it is essential for clinicians to validate their therapeutic strategy (short and long term efficiency) on every patient who undergoes a biopsy. The aim of our joint work will be to use CubiX to: ❇️ Cultivate cancer biopsies from Luminal B subtype patients in the form of Patient Derived Organoids. ❇️ To mimic in vivo complexity of the tumor microenvironment and use this patient avatar (or biological twins) to test therapeutic strategies over several days. ❇️ Reaching a new milestone towards the scientific evidence of clinical utility for the advancement of personalized medicine.
