To celebrate World Space Week, we asked our colleagues what makes working in the space industry so special 🌌 Akshay Gupta, Senior Product Development Manager: “I've had the opportunity to see first-hand how our space-based connectivity can provide internet to the most remote locations: from the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales to a rural school in Kazakhstan. As Eutelsat Group, we are the only true global LEO-GEO operator. We are entering an exciting new chapter and I am thrilled to see what the future holds for us and our customers.“ Benjamin Lenormand, Regulatory and Spectrum Management Engineer:  “The space industry puts stars in your eyes. We constantly push the boundaries of technological and human potential in a demanding environment. The international aspect of this niche field is also particularly exciting and gives us the opportunity to meet people from all over the world who share the same interests.“ Catherine Rost, Director Enterprise Marketing, Connectivity Business Unit said: “Working in the satcom industry is important to me because it makes such a significant impact to people all over the world. Beyond the high-tech, fast-paced aspects that I enjoy about the space sector, I also appreciate that it is a global industry that fosters multinational collaboration, bringing together minds from around the world and combining strengths to solve problems.” Heidy Beatriz Mejía del Puerto, Manager of Satellites Control & Support: “I’m proud to be part of a field that is essential to the success of space missions. Enabling seamless communication between spacecraft and Earth is a critical challenge that demands precision, innovation, and resilience. I love my job because satellite technology is constantly evolving, and there are always challenges to face in analysis and operations to ensure that satellites remain operational.“ Matteo Carucci, Senior Product Owner: “The international collaboration in this field is so inspiring. We work with people from all over the world, not just our customers, but also through partnerships with organisations like the European Space Agency - ESA. This global perspective opens the door to diverse experiences and challenges, making every project an opportunity to learn and meet individuals who are experts in their fields." Virginie Colas, Product Assurance Manager: "Working in the space sector has allowed me to be part of extraordinary projects. I am very proud to have participated several times on launch campaigns in Kourou, French Guiana, and Baikonur, Kazakhstan. Our Group is also used to embarking hosted payload on our satellites for ESA or the Centre National d'Études Spatiales, making progress for science!" Interested in a career in the space industry? Eutelsat OneWeb LEO connectivity, powering the Sail for Tomorrow expedition ⛵ We've partnered with our colleagues at the European Space Agency - ESA and the UK Space Agency to support and connect the Sail for Tomorrow expedition; a voyage by a crew of student researchers focused on ocean protection and education. The user terminal on their ship “Odyssey”, manufactured by Intellian Technologies, will allow the team to share real-time marine research findings as well as facilitating video conferences with primary school students back home, bringing their exciting stories and research directly into classrooms. Being connected to the Eutelsat OneWeb network will also improve crew welfare by supporting internet browsing, streaming, and video calls with family and friends back home. The boat received best wishes for a safe 10 month trip to Tahiti at an event in La Rochelle, this week. We are proud to be working with our partners to enable connectivity for his incredible adventure 🌊

We are delighted to announce two strategic leadership appointments that will bring new expertise and experience to our team, continuing our telecommunications transformation. ✨ We are delighted to welcome Mariam Kaynia as our new Chief Data and Information Officer (CDIO) at the beginning of November. Mariam is joining from Telefonica Germany, where she served as the VP and Director of MassMarket. In this role, she was responsible for delivery of products and services for B2C and B2P customers, including application development and operations, as well as leading their company-wide digital transformation. Prior to joining Telefonica in 2019, Mariam was an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, as well as working as a professor and an expert reviewer for the European Commission. She was named as "Top 50 Women in Technology in Germany" by Handelsblatt in 2021. A Norwegian national, Mariam holds a Ph.D. in Wireless Communications and Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, in affiliation with Stanford University. Mariam replaces David Bath who moves to a new role as Chief Restructuring Officer leading our ground infrastructure divestment project. David has been heavily involved in the project since its inception and his contribution has been invaluable. In this new role, he will ensure the various internal and external stakeholders are working together to meet the expected target date for completion of the transaction, in the first half of 2026. With the completion of the Gen1 operationalisation initiative at the end of 2024, in December, Massimiliano Ladovaz will step down from his role as Chief Operations Officer. A role he has held since our merger in September 2023, responsible for group-wide infrastructure-run activities and the completion of the LEO Gen1 service roll-out. Massi joined OneWeb in April 2018 and as part of the core executive team supported the fund-raising effort in 2019 as well as the sales effort to HMG and Bharti and therefore exit from Chapter 11 in 2020. Massi has been a true anchor and a technology visionary in OneWeb’s journey since 2018, and we want to thank Massi and acknowledge his great contribution to our Group and his passion for our mission. We all wish him the best for his future endeavors. Fabio Mando will succeed Massi as our new Chief Operations officer, starting in November, based in our London office. Fabio is a seasoned telecoms executive with over 25 years’ experience spanning diverse geographies and market segments. His career has included leadership roles at multiple telcos, most recently at Millicom, where he has demonstrated expertise in technology strategy, network deployment, business transformation, and operational optimization in developed and emerging markets. An Italian national, Fabio holds a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Padova, Italy. We look forward to welcoming Mariam and Fabio to the team in the coming month. 👏

At SDSS 2024 earlier today, Willy Guilleux, Senior VP for Global Government Services at Eutelsat Group, explored the future of connectivity in the panel discussion "The Next Frontiers of Space-Based Connectivity in Support of Military Missions" 🌐 Eutelsat Group’s LEO-GEO hybrid network with Eutelsat OneWeb is paving the way with exceptional global coverage and resilience, providing secure and reliable connectivity in the most challenging environments. Key to our strategy is the cost-effectiveness of User Terminals (UTs). To equip all vehicles, these terminals must be affordable, and feature low electrical consumption and minimal size, while maintaining optimal form. Interoperability between MilSatCom and ComSatCom is crucial in harsh conditions. Early integration of UTs into programs enhances operational efficiency and flexibility. Additionally, the complementary nature of LEO and GEO networks allows for seamless transitions between constellations based on latency needs, ensuring robust connectivity wherever required. The SVNO (Satellite Virtual Network Operator) model empowers governments with greater control over ComSatCom services, improving mission planning and adaptability. At Eutelsat Group, we are proud to be a trusted partner in delivering innovative space-based connectivity for missions.
