In recent months, the #FBE has witnessed the tragic impact of natural disasters on countless citizens, including lawyers, across Germany, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Portugal, which suffered flooding or devastating fires. Most recently, severe flooding has affected the entire Mediterranean region of Spain, particularly Valencia. The #FBE expresses its heartfelt sympathy to all the victims and their families who have endured, and continue to face, the devastating consequences of these disasters. 🌟 The wonderful Slovenian National Theatre in the city of Maribor hosted the Slovenian Lawyers’ Day. 🎤 The President of the Bar Association of Slovenia, Mr. Janez Starman, addressed the guests with a welcome speech. Those present also had the honor of being addressed by Mrs. Nataša Pirc Musar, PhD, the President of the Republic of Slovenia. 📚 During the working part, the topic of "The Importance of Self-Regulation of the Bar Associations" was presented by Imbi Jürgen, President of the Bar Association of Estonia, Dr. Veronika Denninger, LL.M., representing the German Federal Bar Association, and Andrej Razdrih, chief of the "Odvetnik" magazine. The panel was moderated by Petja Plaustajner, a Slovenian lawyer. 🏆 During the meeting, the highest awards called "Danilo Majoron" were also awarded to select few lawyers for their exceptional achievements. 🌍 A large number of our colleagues from different parts of Europe participated in the Lawyers’ Day, and among them Rajko Maric, the 2nd Vice President of #FBE. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 was the title of a powerful debate organized by the Cracow Bar Association and the National Council of Advocates. Among the distinguished speakers were Judge Igor Tuleya, who has been suspended from office for applying EU law ⚖️, and Judge Beata Morawiec, who has faced personal and professional challenges, including attempts to strip her judicial immunity and disciplinary proceedings—actions widely seen as linked to her opposition to government reforms 🚫⚖️. Also speaking was Izabela Konopacka, immediate past president of the #FBE, who highlighted the unwavering support of the #FBE community for judicial independence in Poland in recent years 🙌🇵🇱. The #FBE was further represented by its 1st President, Michael Greem, who received a special award 🏆 from the Cracow Bar for his long-standing support and cooperation, particularly in his role as Dean of the Frankfurt Bar. The event was also attended by #FBE 2nd Vice-President Rajko Maric, along with other foreign guests, including Fernanda de Almeida Pinheiro, President of the Portuguese Bar 🇵🇹, who delivered the final address, offering advice and encouragement to the Polish legal community regarding the current state of the rule of law in Poland 🤝⚖️. This conference reinforced the collective commitment to upholding the independence of the judiciary and addressing challenges to the rule of law across Europe 🌍⚖️.
