💫 Gaia Impact team was present in Nairobi last week to attend the bi-annual Global Off-Grid Solar Forum and Expo which gathers energy access stakeholders around the sector's most critical questions and warmly welcomes new initiatives, programmes and ideas.   🌍 A small but exciting change in logistics this year: part of the team was already working from Nairobi in its brand-new office including Hélène Demaegdt, Founder and President of Gaia! As you may know, two members (and counting) of Gaia Impact are now here full time to meet partners and visit innovative and impactful projects in Kenya and the region while supporting our investees on the ground.   ✨ Last week was also the perfect occasion for co-hosting our first ever Gaia-cobranded networking event in Nairobi! Together with our co-hosts EDFI Management Company and Triple Jump we were delighted to meet up with entrepreneurs, equity & debt investors, and enablers that have been working with us for years in helping the #energyaccess sector grow and make a difference on the ground.   🤝 Thank you very much EDFI and Triple Jump for your help co-organizing this successful evening, and thanks everyone for coming and contributing to this burst of shared energy! The evening was a joyful reminder of the sector cohesiveness and relentless dedication towards achieving #SDG7 and more. See you for the next one!

In July, we unveiled our 2024 Gaia Impact Report. This report highlights the initial impact results of our new fund, GEIF II, and explores emerging opportunities in impact investing within the access to energy sector. Throughout the next month, we will be sharing key insights from the report. https://lnkd.in/eADdT8-8 📢 Key Message Number 3 Off-grid technologies are key to expanding access to electricity for all, offering proven social, economic, and environmental benefits. In many contexts, they represent the fastest and most cost-effective path to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7. This report highlights the initial impact results of our new fund, GEIF II, and explores emerging opportunities in impact investing within the access to energy sector. Throughout the next month, we will be sharing key insights from the report. 📢 Key Message Number 2 It’s crucial to rigorously measure impact to differentiate true impact investors from “greenwashing” initiatives. To fulfill its mission, GEIF II—an Article 9 fund under the European SFDR regulation—has established an Impact Committee composed of external experts, including entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry specialists. This committee assesses and validates our impact indicator methodology, as well as the achievement of each of the fund’s goals (5 KPIs per portfolio company).

This report highlights the initial impact results of our new fund, GEIF II, and explores emerging opportunities in impact investing within the access to energy sector. Throughout the next month, we will be sharing key insights from the report. 📢 GEIF II Impact Report Key Message Number 1  We have set ambitious impact goals for GEIF II: by 2032, our goal is to help avoid 4 million tons of CO2 emissions, improve energy access for 4 million people, and create 6,000 net jobs. For every 100€ we invest, we aim to improve energy access to 7 people and avoid 7 tons of CO2, as well as to generate high quality local employement.

🌍 Exciting news from Indonesia ! Victor Beulque, Investment Director at Gaia Impact, has visited our portfolio company Agros in Indonesia last June. It was great to spend some time and reconnect with Agros team, co-investors (SEEAA Leslie , Wavemaker Impact) and partners. Indonesia is a new market after Myanmar and Cambodia, and a massive opportunity with thousands of diesel pumps running and polluting the environment. The Farm Field Day has demonstrated the strong appetite and potential for solar water pump in order to increase farmers' income and preserve the environment. Already strong foundations established in a few months in Indonesia, and a very committed and talented team ready to drive change towards sustainable agriculture!

Exciting times ahead for candi solar ! The company has closed a Series C of $38m with strong backers, this equity raise will finance the deployment of additional 200MW of solar projects for C&I customers in India and South Africa. Congrats Philippe, Rodrigo , Fabio and the whole team for this great journey, Gaia Impact is proud of being a longstanding partner of candi since our first investment in 2018, and the best is still to come!

Today, we only have 1 trillion… As Europeans will go to the polls from today to Sunday, impact investors are calling on the candidates in the European parliamentary elections and on the Commission to act on several levers to redirect private capital towards the twin environmental and social transition.
