🚨Attention 🚨 The second best thing to come from Dijon (after the mustard of course 😉)!    🎥 Today, we are excited to release the video of our panel discussion, "Demand Planning and the Role of Judgment in the World of AI/ML," filmed at the 44th International Symposium on Forecasting in Dijon a few weeks ago. The panel, proposed by Professor Emeritus Robert Fildes from Lancaster University, was organized in response to an article by Lokad's Conor E. D. that criticized #ForecastValueAdded (FVA). 🎤 Moderated by Conor, the panel featured Alexey Tikhonov (#Lokad), Dr. Sven F. Crone (Lancaster University & iqast - intelligent forecasting software), and Nicolas Vandeput (SupChains). Our team recently visited Worten Portugal's headquarters in Lisbon and toured their impressive 50,000m2 warehouse, witnessing firsthand how they expertly handle 45,000 daily decisions powered by Lokad. During the visit, Bruno Saraiva (Head of Stock & Space Management at Worten) made his second #LokadTV appearance, sitting down with Conor E. Though trips to conferences are typically quite destabilizing - interrupted sleep, no gym access, etc. - they do provide the opportunity to connect with very nice people across different disciplines.   This is precisely what happened at #ISFDijon2024 (hosted by International Institute of Forecasters). I was very pleased to chair a lengthy panel discussion with Dr. Sven F. Crone, Nicolas Vandeput, Alexey Tikhonov on the impact of automation and AI on #demandplanning and #forecasting. I strongly suggest watching the replay when it's available!   I also finally got to meet Nikos Kourentzes in person, who was a recent guest on #LokadTV. It's funny to meet someone physically for the first time after already reading their work and interviewing them for 90 minutes (link to interview: https://lnkd.in/eHS6JHvV)!   Conferences like these are valuable for a subtle psychological reason, too. They bring together different - and often opposing - voices. This is paramount, in my opinion, for both professional and personal growth.   All too often - particularly in academia - we critique the work of others without considering how those words will be perceived by the people whose work we are critiquing. For this reason, I have always tried to fairly represent others' ideas, and if I am directly critiquing a writer by name, I will do a separate, dedicated proofread just to avoid any potential harshness in tone (e.g., "Doherty, THE IDIOT, argues that FVA is useless...").   In other words, I don't want my professional opinion about an abstract concept to make a colleague in the field unwilling to shake my hand.   Thus, and despite possibly disagreeing on a few details here and there 😉, I greatly enjoyed connecting with Robert Fildes, Paul Goodwin, Igor Gusakov, Johann ROBETTE, and many more in Dijon.   Lastly, special thanks to Michael Gilliland for the supremely kind gesture of bringing from America an edition of Foresight featuring my recent article - "A Critical Evaluation of the Assumptions of Forecast Value Added " - in which I tried to politely critique his positions.    All of these interactions are what makes the hassle of travel very much worthwhile. #Lokad #AI #ML #supplychain #genai #digitaltransformation #supplychainmanagement

I was delighted to speak at my first expert panel - "Demand Planning and the Role of Judgment in the New World of AI/ML" - at the 44th International Symposium on Forecasting in Dijon (hosted by International Institute of Forecasters). It was a great opportunity to help spread #Lokad's decisions-first perspective to a wider audience of practitioners and academics.   We had a very interesting 75-minute panel discussion with Dr. Sven F. Crone and Nicolas Vandeput followed by many great questions raised by Conor E. D. (without whom this panel discussion wouldn't have probably happened).   There will be a full video of the panel released very soon, but for now, here's a very brief summary:   - We disagreed (politely) on the utility of forecasting accuracy in isolation; - We disagreed (politely) that companies should focus more on producing better decisions (rather than chasing forecasting KPIs); - We agreed (unanimously) that the future of demand planning is automation, though there was some hesitation (not from me 😉) about the timeline.   It was also very nice to meet other voices in the supply chain and forecasting field, including the very friendly Nikos Kourentzes - a recent #LokadTV guest.   I'll share the full video once it's available! #ISF2024 #ISFConf2024 #AI #ML #supplychain #forecasting #genai #digitaltransformation #supplychainmanagement
