🚨MedPAN, is currently attending CBD #CoP16 in Cali, Colombia! 📍 Carole Martinez, MedPAN Policy Manager, is on site to represent MedPAN throughout the CoP. 🎤 As part of different panels and side-events, Carole actively showcased the decisive role and efforts of the organisation to help safeguard the Mediterranean. ➡ Last Saturday, during an event on Conservation Trusts Funds (CFTs), Carole first presented The MedFund, an innovative financial mechanism to support marine protected areas in the Mediterranean. ➡ On Sunday, she then had the opportunity to talk about the instrumental roles of networks as intermediaries between the global level and stakeholders on the ground. The 2030 Mediterranean MPA Roadmap was presented as a tangible and participatory translation process of Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) targets at the regional level. ➡ As part of a panel on CTFs held on Monday, Carole presented specifics and impact of MedFUND. She highlighted the relevance of the Global Alliance for Marine Protection and the fruitful MedPAN-MedFUND collaboration. 👉 Stay tuned for more information as the CoP unfolds! Through partnerships, sustainable financing, and capacity-building, MedPAN supports marine protected areas (MPAs) across the Mediterranean, safeguarding biodiversity and building resilience against climate change. At #IWC10, today we are highlighting our Global Environment Facility project in collaboration with The MedFund building back a blue and stronger #Mediterranean with the key Achievements being: ➡ $3.5M invested directly into MPA operations. ➡ 7 MPAs supported across 4 Mediterranean countries (Albania, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia) ➡ Capacity-building workshops, including on governance and restoration.
