〘 R&D PROJECT 〙🚀 Exciting research project supported by Oenobrands! We are delighted to announce the launch of a joint PhD between ISVV - Institut des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin Bordeaux and SAGWRI South African Grape and Wine Research Institute at Stellenbosch University 🍇, focusing on the potential of non-Saccharomyces yeasts to control Brettanomyces bruxellensis, a well-known spoilage yeast in wineries. 🍷 This ambitious project is led by Phuti Lekokotla 🎓, who graduated with an MSc in Wine Biotechnology from Stellenbosch in December 2024. Originally from Limpopo, South Africa, he is the first South African student to benefit from the CIFRE program🎯, a funding scheme supported by the French National Association for Research and Technology (ANRT - Association Nationale de la Recherche et de la Technologie) and OENOBRANDS . Over the next three years, Phuti will split his time between Bordeaux and Stellenbosch under the supervision of Prof. Benoît Divol (SAGWRI) and Prof. Warren Albertin (ISVV). His research aims to deepen our understanding of yeast interactions 🧬and offer a biological solution 🌱to the challenges posed by Brettanomyces, an issue that is becoming even more critical due to climate change.
