Happy National Day, #Czechia! We extend our gratitude for Czechia’s 31 years of membership with the #PompidouGroup. Ms. Katerina Horackova’s dedicated service as Czechia’s permanent correspondent is highly appreciated.

🌟 From 21-25 October, the #PompidouGroup actively participated in the 2024 European Conference on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies in Lisbon, which brought together over 2,000 participants from more than 100 countries. 🤝 The Pompidou Group co-organised two side events during the Lisbon Addictions week: the 4th European Conference on Prison Health, and the 2nd Gender and Drugs Symposium. The Pompidou Group was further involved with the sessions on Women’s Realities of Drug Use, Policy Issues in Gambling, Policy Approaches in Behavioural Addictions, and Substance Use Interventions for Youth. #LxAddictions24

In the framework of the Lisbon Addictions Conference 2024, the Executive Secretary of the #PompidouGroup, Denis HUBER and the Permanent Correspondent of Portugal to the Pompidou Group, Sofia SANTOS, discussed Portugal’s active participation in the Pompidou Group as well as the Group’s active involvement in the conference. #LxAddictions24

During #LxAddictions24, Denis Huber, Executive Secretary of the #PompidouGroup, met with Alexis GOOSDEEL, Executive Director of the newly created European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA). They explored current challenges and prospects for reinforced cooperation between the Pompidou Group and EUDA in addiction science and addictive behaviors.

At the Lisbon Addictions Conference 2024, the Executive Secretary of the #PompidouGroup, Denis HUBER and the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke HALSEMA, had the opportunity to meet and discuss current challenges and future cooperation opportunities regarding the role of local authorities to address drug and addiction challenges. #LxAddictions24

At today’s Policy Issues in Gambling session at #LxAddictions24, Jann Schumacher, Chair of the #PompidouGroup Expert Group on Online Addictions, presented the recently published expert group report on Risks and Harms Associated with Online Gaming and Gambling. Today at #LxAddictions24, Deputy to the Executive Secretary of the #PompidouGroup, Elena Hedoux, chaired the session Women’s Realities of Drug Use. The presentations explored the gender-specific challenges faced by women who use drugs, focusing on the influence of social systems and gender norms on their experiences, as well as the pathways to empowerment.

🌟 On 22 October, during the Lisbon Addictions week, the European Drugs and Gender Group organized the 2nd Gender and Drugs Symposium: Towards Consensus on Gender-Responsive Drug Interventions in Europe. 🤝 The event was coordinated by the #PompidouGroup and the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA), in collaboration with UNICRI - United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), and several drug experts from various countries. 💡 During the symposium, participants outlined recommendations and requirements to translate theory into practice, incorporating a gender dimension in the drugs field. The goal is to build consensus on gender-responsive drug interventions in Europe and beyond. #LxAddictions24
