🧑🔬 Inspiring Pioneers 🧑🔬 PYTHEAS Technology brings together many engineers and PhDs. Because the role of women in science and engineering is essential and often overlooked. We decided to introduce you to some illustrious women in our field and their work! Helen Megaw is a crystallographer. She worked on ice structure in Antarctic, as a research student. In honor of her discoveries of nature of ice, an island in Antartica was named Megaw island in 1962. As a mineral also bears her name: Megawite, it’s quite a tribute! During WWII, she works on the crystal structure of barium titanate, a once new material used in capacitors and SONAR. This material crystallizes in the Perovskite structure, critical to understand piezoelectric phenomena. This structure is so famous and so important that Helen’s name is permanently associated with it. In the ferroelectrics community, Helen’s contributions are particularly recognized and her book Ferroelectricity in Crystals published in 1957 was the first of its kind and soon became a classic text. And as if that wasn’t enough, Helen combined Art and Science by creating fabric patterns based on crystallographic figures! We love it! At PYTHEAS Technology we value her work on the crystal structure of Perovskite as we work with it each and every day. La place de la femme dans les sciences et l’ingénierie est essentielle, nous avons donc décidé de vous présenter plusieurs illustres femmes de science et leurs travaux en lien avec nos applications ! Helen Megaw est cristallographe. Elle a étudié la structure cristalline de la glace en Antarctique, dans l’équipe de recherche de John Desmond Bernal. C’est en l’honneur de ses travaux qu’une île en Antarctique est nommée : Megaw Island en 1962 ! Elle possède également un minéral à son nom : la Mégawite, c’est plutôt pas mal comme hommage ! Durant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, elle établit la structure cristallographique du titanate de baryum, un isolant électrique et un matériau piézoélectrique utilisé dans les microphones et d’autres types de transducteurs. Ce matériau cristallise dans une structure dite Perovskite, critique pour comprendre la piézoélectricité. Le nom de Megaw restera indéniablement associé à cette célèbre structure. Helen Megaw est fortement reconnue dans le domaine de la ferroélectricité. Elle publiera son ouvrage de référence Ferroelectricity in Crystal en 1957. Et comme si cela ne suffisait pas, Helen a marié Art et Sciences en développant des motifs de tissus sur la base des figures cristallographiques ! On adore ! Chez PYTHEAS Technology, nous accordons une réelle importance aux travaux d’Helen Megaw. 🔊 Underwater Acoustics 🔊 PYTHEAS Technology specializes in piezoelectricity, a field with a wide range of applications, from the deep ocean to outer space. The ocean is one of PYTHEAS Technology's major areas of focus. We develop ways to explore and utilize it with underwater acoustics, while also emphasizing the importance of protecting it. Underwater acoustics is an incredibly rich field, constantly seeking innovation. It encompasses the emission, propagation, and use of acoustic waves in water. Historically, underwater acoustics were first developed for Defense applications. Paul Langevin invented sonar primarily for detecting submarines during First World War. In addition to anti-submarine warfare, various navies use sonar for Marine Mine Countermeasure (MMCM) and Critical Seabed Infrastructure (CSI) monitoring. Over time, this technology has gradually moved into civilian applications, including ocean mapping, marine life preservation, hydrography, offshore energy, fishery and more. Despite the significant progress made in the field since the early days, there are still major challenges to overcome in the discipline. Here are a few: 🔘 The ability to detect objects buried in sediment  🔘 The possibility of deploying a true underwater communication network 🔘Understanding how the world’s best sonars work: cetacean sonars  🔘 Monitoring and controlling underwater acoustic noise All of this is happening in a context where humans are increasingly being replaced by drones for these maritime activities. This necessitates ever more efficient, compact and intelligent sonars capable of self-parameterizing and analyzing their own data.   There are still many challenges to face in this fascinating field! 🚨 PREMIÈRE USINE 🚨 C’est officiel, PYTHEAS Technology ouvre son site de production à La Ciotat ! Bien que nous restions dans la même ville, nous avons déménagé afin d’ouvrir notre premier site de production. Nos bureaux sont situés juste au-dessus du laboratoire R&D et de nos lignes de production où nous développons et produisons nos composants piézoélectriques. Ce tout nouvel espace est constitué d’une salle propre de 300m2, de 2 lignes d’assemblage ainsi que de plusieurs bassins d’essai acoustique. PYTHEAS Technology se dote ainsi d’un superbe outil de production pour accompagner sa croissance et continue d’innover ! 💪 #PYTHEASTechnology #innovation #premièreusine ......................................................... 🚨 First Factory 🚨 We’ve been silent for some time, but here it is: PYTHEAS Technology has opened its first production site in La Ciotat, France! We have a huge open space for the whole team and meeting rooms, located right above our R&D lab and production lines to develop and manufacture our piezoelectric devices. This beautiful space includes a 300 square meters clean room, 2 assembly lines and several acoustic test tanks.
