Honeyed, resinous and woody oriental notes often take centerstage in his creations, turning the experience of perfume into a real olfactory discovery of the flavors they evoke. To celebrate this year's European heritage days, our historic Palais Royal boutique hosted from September 19th until September 29th, a cycle of events around these inspirations with conferences by fragrance historian Elisabeth de Feydeau and fragrance expert Elodie Roblain from the Institut du monde arabe. Perfume and history enthusiasts alike were also invited to discover a curated exhibition on exclusive engraved limited editions celebrating Serge Lutens' vision of Moroccan culture. #europeanheritagedays #JEP #SergeLutens #PalaisRoyal #Morocco

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀’ 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 Even as a child, Serge Lutens stood out in school for his drawings of women in fancy dresses made of brocade, silk, organza, and so on. These first sketches, spanning a range of fabrics and eras, proved that the boy already harboured interests in fashion and beauty at odds with those of his schoolmates. Throughout his extensive creative career – be it hairdressing, makeup, photography, fragrance -, Serge Lutens has always attempted to reconstruct a sublime and inaccessible feminine ideal at antipodes with the maternal image. The only way for him to make sense of his own existence. An iconic woman with a pallid face symbolised for him an ideal of absolute beauty. With a distinctive blend of sophistication and supreme self-confidence, she remained impossible to pin down, because she wasn't made of flesh and blood. Instead, she represented the struggle and self-assertion of a man who had spent his whole life nurturing a steady dialogue with his inner woman. Up until now, he continuously reinvents his feminine counterpart in the likes of drawings on limited edition bottles of La fille de Berlin, L'orpheline or even his latest heroine La fille tour de fer. #sergelutens #sergelutensarchives #fragrance #inspiration

𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀' 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 Inspiration lies everywhere for Serge Lutens. Taking cues from architecture, nature, literature, cinema and much more, he enjoys blurring the lines between words, images and scents. Perfume then becomes of a whole entity as it can be “a form of writing, an ink, a choice made in the first person, the dot on the i, a weapon, a courteous gesture, part of the instant, a consequence.” #SLarchives #sergelutens #sergelutensperfume

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 : 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀’ 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 In 1992, Serge Lutens opened his first boutique, at the same time as his first perfume Féminité du bois was born, kickstarting an olfactory revolution that would take the fragrance world by storm. Enclosed in the shaded arcades of the Palais Royal in Paris, this niche boutique was a luxury address aimed at lovers of exceptional and exclusive beauty. Within the four walls of the boutique boasts a décor straight out of a fairytale. Built around a bronze spiral staircase, the space is imbued with an elegant quiet atmosphere inspired by the Directoire style combined to elaborate Moroccan craftmanship structures. Astrological signs, fantastic and magnificent insect bestiaries reminiscent of the grotesque figures in Nero's Palace, each element was carefully chosen and put together to transport the visitor into a reverie. Only the fragrances emanating from the small apothecary bottles—whose rounded shoulders echo the shape of the Palais Royal's arcades—remind us that we are in fact in a perfumery. The Palais Royal boutique is now considered a masterpiece and the meeting place of choice for the brand’s perfume and beauty enthusiasts. This historical location, along with its sister boutique located in rue Saint-Honoré, is one of the only places in the world where one can find all the Serge Lutens’ entire perfume collection, make-up line and home fragrance collection. 𝗟𝗶𝗽𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀: 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Created in 2005, the Nécessaire de Beauté has a qualitative and high-end positioning present in 50 points of sale worldwide. Now available to all 20 velvety lipstick shades, which exude absolute elegance through the use of vivid, deep and daring colours, refills extend the life of this favourite Serge Lutens sculptured beauty product. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻𝘀 In his latest interview, Serge Lutens recounts his fifth encounter with the world of roses, the history of roses in perfumery and how he reinvents it in his newest olfactory creation, La fille tour de fer. A cry against the current generalised Paris puritanism, his new scent embodies “a way of seeing life, of neither rejecting it nor refusing it, of not simply looking at things one-dimensionally.” Discussing the European perfume material laws, which feel “more and more like a prison”, he fears olfactive memories are in danger. 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁-𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲́, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀’ 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 “Purple is the combination of blue and red. Blue, the color of death and red, the color of life, blood, love. These two complementary colors form purple which, after black, is the color I prefer. Its depth lies in the inexplicable.” Serge Lutens Over time, black - Serge Lutens’ quintessential color - became an automatism which had to evolve, paving the way to another favorite : purple. In this second Parisian boutique opened in 2018, and bringing relief and warmth to a mostly black interior, purple subtly underlines the structure of the shelves and niches. Distinct from the other colors widely used by the competition and at odds with the warmer Moroccan-inspired decor of the historical Palais Royal boutique, this new hue has a unique character inviting guests into introspection and initiation. Engraved exclusive fragrances are presented like jewels on shelves whilst current collections are magnified on presentation tables designed in an iconic shape by Serge Lutens himself and inspired by the inverted tip of church altars. Finally, raw and noble materials interact to delimit certain areas or highlight the most emblematic creations of the brand. #sergelutens #retail #SLboutiques #sainthonoré
