À propos
Snøhetta is an international integrated architecture and design firm. The practice has a global presence, with offices spanning from Oslo, Paris, and Innsbruck, to New York, San Francisco. Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Adelaide and Melbourne. Snøhetta kick-started its career in 1989 with the competition-winning entry for the new library of Alexandria, Egypt. This was later followed by the commission for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City, among many others. Since its inception, the practice has maintained its original transdisciplinary approach, and integrates architectural, landscape, interior, product, graphic, digital design and art across its projects. The collaborative nature between Snøhetta's different disciplines is an essential driving force of the practice. Snøhetta is currently working on a wide range of international projects, including the Ordrupgaard Art Museum expansion in Denmark and the Shanghai Grand Opera House. Recently completed works include Le Monde Group Headquarters in Paris, Europe’s first underwater restaurant, Under, the redesign of the public space in Times Square, the expansion to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Lascaux IV: The International Centre for Cave Art, Powerhouse Brattørkaia and the design for Norway’s new banknotes. Snøhetta’s working method practices a simultaneous exploration of traditional handicraft and cutting-edge digital technology. At the heart of all Snøhetta’s work lies a commitment to social and environmental sustainability, shaping the built environment and design in the service of humanism. Snøhetta believes well-conceived design can help things run more efficiently, improve people’s well-being and make life more enjoyable. Every project is designed with strong, meaningful concepts in mind – concepts that can translate the ethos of its users and their context.

La Nube is positioned within the heart of El Paso’s Downtown Arts district, close to the vibrant San Jacinto plaza and less than one kilometer from El Paso del Norte, a major border-crossing station. The new museum aims to become an inclusive civic classroom for the region’s families, designed to maximize open-ended, imaginative play, celebrate the unique geography of the city, and to foster a cross cultural connection with the children's museum in El Paso's sister city, Juarez, Mexico. 📸by: Casey Dunn #elpaso #childrensmuseum #museumdesign #architecture #landscapearchitecture #learn #play

We are happy to share the news that Snøhetta has won the competition for the new stations of the cable car in the German city of Koblenz. As contemporary statements the expressive stations blend respectfully into the historical context of the city in the Rhine Valley. The valley station is located in the vicinity of the listed Basilica of St Castor. The gently curved shape pays homage to the basilica and reinterprets the city's architectural heritage and motifs. “The design shows restraint within the World Heritage Site without losing any of its architectural significance,” the jury stated. A common, gently chamfered metal roof also covers the technical facilities of the mountain station close to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress on the other side of the Rhine. The station and “flying” roof emphasise the clear horizontality of the historic landscape in front of the fortress. Our proposal for the Banpo Ecological Playscape in Seoul, South Korea, envisioned reviving not just the physical link, but also the vibrant spirit that once defined this now dormant area in South Korean capital. The Playscape ensures a revitalization of the Banpo area, once again integrating the waterfront into the neighborhood. By blurring the lines between water and mainland, the design seamlessly blends vibrant city life with breathtaking landscape, fostering community and activity along the river. The design consists of two layers – the “ecosystem” and the “playscape” – each contributing to the projects essence. At the ecological level, it champions climate resilience by managing flood events and nurturing a self-regulating ecosystem with integrated wetlands and woodlands. The playscape serves as a catalyst for cultural enrichment, encouraging playfulness across generations. As the first artificial park of its kind, the proposal reaches beyond symbolic expression, fostering grounds for an inclusive community and shared moments. Snøhetta went to the final round in the international design competition of Banpo-Hangang River Connection Park and Cultural Facilities. The design proposal aimed to create an “ecological playscape” along Seoul’s dormant Banpo waterfront, envissioning to reconnect urban life to the essential Hangang river through a cultural destination and natural wonderland at the heart of South Korea’s capital. Located along the Hangang riverside park and spanning above the Olympic-daero expressway, Snøhetta’s “Banpo Ecological Playscape” inserts an ecological framework with a sculptural landmark and recreational programs across the 38,000 sqm site. The design revitalizes the Hangang floodplains as a public space, restoring the lost connection between land and river. Aiming to establish harmony the landscape connects the urban environment and nature, while encouriging public access and activity along the waterfront.
