At Solina we´re taking responsibility for the impact our operations and our part in the value chain have on the environment. Ensuring a sustainable food system is going to be critical for the years to come. Therefore, our mission is to develop food solutions that are both better for people and the planet. It´s the only way to create a food system where we can preserve or even strengthen the economic, social and environmental bases for coming generations. Our 2030 targets: 🌏 -42% reduction in our GHG emissions of Scope 1 & Scope 2, 🌎 100% renewable electricity, 🌍 -25% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions. To show our dedication, we have signed our commitment to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).     Working on site with the Solina Sustainability ambitions Over two days, employees at Solina in Nieuw Vennep, The Netherlands, participated in workshops to discuss their role in the Solina Sustainability journey. 🌍 Climate Fresk This is a science-based concept and eye-opener, aimed at raising awareness about the chain of consequences that human behaviour has on climate change. At Solina we use it to engage everyone in our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. “Until today, 845 colleagues across 16 locations have completed the workshop, and the plan is to continue”, says Sibylle Lamy, Group Sustainability Change Manager. 🧡 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion DE&I are integral to Solina’s sustainability as well as culture ambitions. The discussions during the workshop helped us recognize our own unconscious biases, which form at a young age, and the importance of respecting each other’s differences while fostering individual growth. Sanne Dieben, Site Manager in Nieuw Vennep and initiative taker to these days, emphasized how internal awareness is key to achieving a cultural change and driving future growth. “Every change starts with a first next step, and by gaining knowledge about sustainability and making it tangible through real experiences relevant to our own environment, we can more easily continuously improve and achieve our goals”, says Sanne Dieben.

    As part of Solina, our Finnish team at Puljonki Oy proudly presents their new heating/cooling recovery system from Nevel—a system we look forward to! Not only will it expand our sustainability journey, but it will also allow us to achieve our goal of 100% renewable energy and reduce Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030. As Andrej Solovian, Sales Manager at Nevel says: "We provide the cooling services required for food production at the Puljonki factory using energy-efficient equipment, and we manage the recovery and reuse of excess heat in Puljonki's processes. With our solution, Puljonki can focus on their core business while we ensure environmentally friendly management of the factory's energy flows," Nevel's solution represents the best available technology, utilizing environmentally friendly, natural refrigerants. The excess heat from the cooling system will be used to heat the factory and for other process needs. The balance between cooling production and heat consumption will be optimized through intelligent automation, and the solution is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. This is a huge step into our sustainability journey, and we are so excited for the future!! 😀

    It was a success – the very first Solina Sensorial Show! We are incredibly proud and still overwhelmed by the excitement from our first Sensorial Show, held in Paris earlier this June. The event showcased our culinary innovation capabilities to customers in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) and foodservice industry, who experienced new tastes, surprising textures, and captivating scents, all with a focus on improved nutrition, plant-based options, and responsible, flexible packaging. Over nine days, we hosted more than 50 guests representing 17 customers. Each invited customer enjoyed a personalized experience aimed at creating and designing the food of tomorrow, together. Driven by our chefs from diverse backgrounds and cultures, we witnessed true culinary creativity, all derived from our sauce, seasoning, coating, protein, onion, and other food solutions. We are eager to work with QSR chains and partners alike to make food matter, for people and the planet. A second edition is coming this October.     Season 01 is a wrap! We have successfully concluded the final episode of our internal Sustainability Webinar Series. These sessions have been invaluable in enhancing our team's awareness and understanding of our sustainability ambitions, targets and plans.    Over the course of six episodes, featuring a variety of guest speakers from Solina, we explored key topics including sustainable sourcing, emissions reduction, better nutrition, DE&I, transparency, and more.    A huge thank you to our contributors and all the Solina food enthusiasts who joined these webinars.
