"Time to change tables," you'll say. Not every participant will like it! Especially the ones who hoped to use your workshop time for a nice, quiet nap. But as facilitators, we love to shake things up!   And the vast majority will jump right in. Today, I’m sharing a classic Workshop Design Pattern. --- The Change Table Pattern --- Here’s how it works: 1. You have groups discussing at different tables.   2. Then, you say, "Time to switch!"   3. And... Everyone moves to a new table. → Buy my 232-page book that explains how to achieve that extraordinary complex facilitation feat. You can mix it up in different ways: 1. Everyone switches tables but stays in their original teams: Perfect when you have different themes associated with tables. 2. Everyone moves to a new table, except for one person: The "host" stays behind to catch the newcomers up on the previous discussion.  The benefits? You get to piss off those who were too comfortable in their chair. And also... 🟢Movement: Keeps the energy high and everyone engaged.   🟢Cross-Pollination: Mixes up ideas and perspectives. A few words of caution: ⚠️Don't let people get too comfortable. Before they do, ask them not to put their stuff out of their bags.   ⚠️Safety: Make sure they can move around freely without stepping on tables or bags or whatever trap there is on the floor. [A short rant] Just because people are switching tables doesn't mean you're doing a World Café.  The World Café has a specific structure, process, and set of principles. [End of short rant] Et voilà! That was my second Design Pattern.   I have tons of them that I use as inspiration when I design a workshop. Want more?   https://lnkd.in/eb5X_zNn

50 tables, 300 participants, 2500 GenAI cards… And one facilitator; me! I recently facilitated a hands-on training session on GenAI for 300 R&D employees. This will be the topic of my next webinar, I'll be sharing all the insights I gathered from this exciting experience. Of course, I used my GenAI card deck! Here's what I'll cover: - My design process - Room setup with 50 tables - Using OBS for in-person setups - Activities with the physical GenAI cards - Stormz on phones to enhance interactivity Plus, I'll reveal some secret techniques I've developed over 12 years of facilitating collaboration and interactivity with super large groups. As always, I'll keep it real and honest, Sharing what worked and what didn’t. For more information or to register, Check out this link: hey-alex.link/events. Don’t miss out; there will be an exclusive gift for those who attend live! PS: Preparing 2500 cards was quite a task; OMG!

On a mission to bring meeting skills to the masses. ☀️ Facilitator ✏️Trainer 🧢 Coach 🎤Speaker

Today I had the opportunity to share my love of #designthinking at the Chesapeake Bay Organization Development Network conference at George Mason University - Schar School of Policy and Government. Thank you for the chance to present (Leslie Fiorella-Durham, MHR, MSOD | Eliyahu Lotzar, Ed.D., MSW | Vanessa Viviano, MSOD) and thank you to the participants for showing up and being willing to experiment with Stormz as a brainstorming tool. Shoutout to Alexandre Eisenchteter✨🛠 the developer for giving us access to play with this! It went great and was such an awesome tool for ideating high-velocity solutions to trends in the #organizationdevelopment field. Lastly BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, huge appreciation for expert UI/UX and fellow facilitator Amanda Jo Liscouski for helping out as our support host. In less than an hour we were able to accomplish a full design sprint thanks to your help keeping the sessions flowing seamlessly. Many thanks!

Stormz can also be used as an audience engagement tool! You know Stormz as the killer brainstorming app, but in this case study, Alexandre will show you, among other things, how Stormz was used to facilitate simple bottom-up activities: - Quizzes - Surveys - Insight clouds - Quick brainstorms He leveraged the fact that Stormz is super easy to use and works perfectly on a smartphone. Follow Alexandre for more insights on large group workshops, hybrid settings, and remote facilitation.

How I helped 300 participants understand what Gen AI can do for them. You could do the same with your clients! I will share with you all a return on experience from a real-life workshop (June 2024) with 300 participants in the R&D division of a major food and beverage company. Of course, my GenAI card deck is the star of the show! But a tool, as cool as it may be, is just a tool. I'll show you: - how I used the GenAI cards to teach and trigger understanding, - a sleek 2-hour workshop design for large groups, - room setup, A/V, - my facilitation tricks on using physical cards with 50 tables, - how I combined all that with a digital engagement tool. But most importantly, you know me... No fluff, no overselling: - what worked well, and... - what the fu... did not! If you want to surf the GenAI wave with your clients, This is the session you don't want to miss. Psst...I'll prepare an exclusive gift for those who join me in this session.

Do you know that Stormz works perfectly on a mobile phone? It makes Stormz the perfect facilitation tool for: - Large group workshops - Hybrid settings Of course, you have to use it the right way! For example, suggest one phone per group of three, or like Alexandre did for this unconference format: one phone per circle of discussion. Follow Alexandre for more insights on large groups, hybrid and remote settings.

Balloons are in the air! Room prep: ✅ Un-conferences are becoming one of my favorite formats. Have you heard of Barcamps or Open-Space Technology? These are variations of the un-conference workshop format where participants decide on the discussion topics. Over the years, I've developed my own way of conducting these. I combine traditional dynamics with a pinch of digital tools, like Stormz, to help with harvesting topics and collecting reports. This format is perfect for large groups! I know you'd like to learn more about it, but in the meantime, here’s a little video walkthrough of the discussion space. You'll see what the balloons are for. As with any workshop, the devil’s in the details, so...I’ll show you more later! Follow me if you don't want to miss it ;-)
