We recently had the chance to assist a family-owned winery in the PACA region of France in implementing a global forestry plan. This plan aims to not only improve the sustainability of their vineyard, but also create a positive impact on the environment and surrounding community. By planting micro forests around their vineyard, our client has been able to reduce water runoff, mitigate soil erosion and provide a habitat for local wildlife. The winery was also able to use sustainably sourced lumber from their own forests for barrel making and other construction projects. In addition to these environmental benefits, the global forestry plan allowed the winery to diversify their income stream by selling carbon credits generated from their reforestation efforts. With our compliments to Maison Saint Aix, Syndicat des Vins Côtes de Provence and Chateau Carqueiranne AOP Côtes de Provence! #sustainability #forestry #reforestation #soilerosion #carboncredits #oldgrowthforests #ghg #carboncapture #timbermanagement #naturepositive #naturebasedsolutions #foodandbeverage #wine #frenchwine #rosewine #provence #winebusiness #winemarketing #wine #sales #winetourism

A visit to NYC's living laboratory for climate solutions During our recent mission to New York, we had the chance to visit the planned Climate Research Center and sustainability-led art exhibitions on Governors Island. This initiative aims to transform the idyllic 172-acre island off Lower Manhattan into a hub for climate innovation, where researchers, educators and artists can collaborate to address pressing environmental issues. During our visit, it was evident that this project is not only about research but is also committed to engaging the public through community events, urban farming, circular design projects, innovations in waste management, interactive exhibitions and educational programs designed to raise awareness and inspire action towards a sustainable future. Of note is the Circular Economy Manufacturing (CEMfg) project, which operates a proprietary solar-powered microfactory shipping container. Using a pioneering energy-efficient mold heating technology, the off-grid operation rotationally molds consumer and urban infrastructure products from recycled single-use plastic (such as laundry bottles). Manufacturing within the microfactory operation helps to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels, advance zero-waste initiatives, provide local jobs and create well-designed products from our abundant plastic waste. The energy and dedication of teams involved in this project was truly inspiring, highlighting a collective dedication to combat climate change with creativity and research at its core. #circulareconomy #sustainability #sustainableinnovation #CSR #circularity #netzero #sustainablefinance #sustainablebusiness #riskmanagement #impact #purpose #greeneconomy #greenjobs #renewables #renewableenergy #cleanenergy #governance #climateinnovation #governorsisland #nyc #sustainability #circulareconomy #recycling #wastemanagement #community #urbanfarming #research #microfactory #plasticwaste #lowermanhattan The New York Climate Exchange Trust for Governors Island Stony Brook University Circular Economy Manufacturing The Friends of Governors Island GrowNYC Earth Matter NY

Blended finance solutions to support biodiversity protection and restoration Despite positive trends, the gap between the financial resources required for effective biodiversity conservation and the current investments remains significant. Experts estimate that to adequately address the biodiversity crisis, annual funding must reach between $722 billion and $967 billion by 2030. This shortfall highlights the critical need for increased financial commitments not only from governments but also from private sectors and international organizations. Enhancing financial flows toward biodiversity can facilitate efforts to protect endangered species, restore ecosystems, and maintain the natural services that are vital for human survival. In 2023, $164.7 billion of public finance was directed toward biodiversity across 60 countries analysed by the United Nations Environmental Programme. This is an increase of $17.2 billion from 2022 in real terms. The rise in spending in 2023 is driven by a $9.3 billion increase in investment into sustainable agriculture, forestry and fishing, over three-quarters of which occurred in the US, China, Canada, Japan and Turkey. Almost half of public support is explicitly allocated to biodiversity protection. The remainder funds projects that mitigate biodiversity loss. Despite these increases, significant challenges remain in effectively channeling resources to where they are most needed. Many countries continue to struggle with establishing and implementing policies that can unlock additional funding for biodiversity. Further compounding this issue is the lack of standardized metrics to measure the impact of biodiversity investments, making it difficult to evaluate progress or make informed decisions about where to direct resources. To overcome these hurdles, it is crucial to develop innovative financing mechanisms and foster collaborative partnerships between governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. Additionally, there is a pressing need to enhance transparency and accountability in the disbursement and utilization of funds to ensure that they effectively contribute to the protection and restoration of the planet's biodiversity. #biodiversity #investments #publicprivatepartnerships #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #restoration #ecosystems #naturepositive #conservation #naturebasedsolutions #pollutioncontrol #sanitation #compliance #governance #blendedfinance

Many thanks and compliments to Tabula Rasa Dance Theater of New York for their recent premier of two works at the intersection of art and social justice at John Jay College (CUNY). A powerful example of how artistic expression can bring social change. Art asks questions without pretending to have all the answers; in turn, it brings about genuine reflection and awareness. #dancephotos #dancephotography #cdiresidents #artistinresidence #danceperformance #CUNY #dancecompany #nycdance #sustainability #culture #ecology #freedom #education

Regenerative agriculture to strengthen biodiversity and food systems Regenerative agriculture operations are 120% more profitable, require fewer inputs and are expected to generate €1.2 trillion in increased crop production by 2050. The value of the regenerative market is currently estimated at €8.4 billion, with 14% CAGR expected growth by 2030. This reflects a broader shift to regenerative models in agri systems, which prioritize soil health and environmental sustainability. With the potential to address issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity, it is clear that regenerative agriculture is not just a trend but a necessary solution for sustainable food production. Implementing biodiversity compliance programs and restoration projects Many companies today are shifting from a reporting-driven approach to sustainability to a project-driven approach, including the implementation of biodiversity programs that seek to conserve and enhance the variety and abundance of species that may exist near operational sites. From both a legal and operational perspective, we believe that biodiversity programs are an essential component for multinational companies, particularly those in the extractive industries, to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices and mitigate, through proactive measures, any negative impacts they may have on biodiversity and local communities. In this video, we include below a few key steps for consideration. https://lnkd.in/ePbvQQj3 #biodiversity #reforestation #rewilding #restoration #nature #naturebasedsolutions #riskmapping #endangeredspecies #assessments #mitigation #industry #ecosystems #monitoring #communities #stakeholders #csr #sustainability #conservation #compliance #multinationals #esg #sdgs #vivant #vivace #rse
