On Wednesday Tait Communications and Tait Systems NZ helped launch the new Land Mobile Radio network – a new critical communications national radio network to support New Zealand’s emergency services personnel. For us, delivering this 500 site network and the hardware to use it, is about playing our part in the communities we call home. We have a long history of delivering for emergency services – including those in England, America, Brazil, South Africa and Australia. Being part of the New Zealand Government’s three-solution Public Safety Network means providing kiwi emergency services with the modern, resilient and secure radio technology they need to strengthen their critical communications and keep New Zealand communities safe. In 1982, Tait made a major move, relocating its manufacturing facility from central Christchurch on Manchester Street to its current home on Woolridge Road, where we’ve been for over 40 years. The Tait team initially rented half of a uniquely shaped building, the two sides separated by a large firewall, from the Millers clothing factory to house our manufacturing operations. The building’s design was innovative for its time – the original factory plan called for a “20-tooth circular saw with a large stub axle of 3 floors containing the mechanical services and staff facilities.” Back then, there was barely any infrastructure in sight, but as shown in the last photo, 30 years later, Tait has not only expanded with a new building, but the buildings in the surrounding area have multiplied too! #TaitHistory #CanterburyTech #TaitInnovation
