🇺🇸 The U.S. Presidential election is just one week away, and the two main candidates, Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump, have significantly different views on trade policy, tariffs and customs duties and how to facilitate trade with China. 💰 The U.S. is the world's largest economy and the second largest e-commerce market after China. The outcomes of the U.S. election will also shape trade policy for at least the next 4 years. Even the low value threshold of $800 USD is left to be debated among lawmakers. 🤝 Does your company import to the U.S.? 🇪🇺 The European Union lists VAT and Customs Duty as two of the three major sources of its budget, and therefore it relies heavily on the proper payment and is quite active in detecting customs fraud. 💰 While customs duty evasion is a major offense, some companies may unintentionally commit fraud by mislabelling products or miscalculating duties owed. In recent weeks, two companies in the EU, one from France and one from Italy, were hit with customs fraud and anti-dumping charges resulting in significant fines and negative media attention. Anti-dumping occurs when non-EU manufacturers sells their goods in the EU below normal value. 🌐 Consulting experts in cross-border trade and logistics helps companies navigate the complexities of customs duties. Contact Trade Duty Refund, a dedicated broker specialized in cross-border e-Commerce customs duties, especially on returned items.

📣 De Minimis and Customs Regulations It looks like the U.S. is following in the footsteps of its European counterparts and re-evaluating its "de minimis" threshold for imported goods in an effort to counter the low-value goods from China flooding the U.S. retail market. 🇺🇸 The U.S. has one of the highest de minimis thresholds standing at $800 USD (while the EU and UK hold at €150 EUR and 125 GBP respectively - for now). According to Economist Intelligence: EIU, the Biden Administration announced in September plans to review "de minimis" for certain product categories in order to offset "unfair competition". This will surely have ripple effects on cross-border e-commerce retailers. ➡ Full Article: https://lnkd.in/eh6aWF3m 🌐 Trade Duty Refund's international trade and logistics experts are continuously following EU and U.S. customs reform, schedule a discovery call with us to understand the effects on your e-commerce business.
