It has been a great experience serving in the Steering Committee of the Associate Membership of the World Medical Association. At the World Medical Association General Assembly underway in Helsinki, Day 2 has started with the Associate Members Meeting, which includes the Past Presidents and Chair of Council Network, and the Junior Doctors Network of WMA. Next the Scientific Session addressing the topic “Inequalities in health and health care – how to tackle them?” Keynote speech at Scientific Session “Social Justice and Health Equity” has been given by Sir Michael Marmot, WMA Past President. This will be followed by sessions on “How can prevention provide more equity in healthcare?”, “Advancements in healthcare – how to make access to health care more equitable?’ and “How to mitigate the effects of climate change on inequalities?” The afternoon will see the Executive Committee Session on the preparation for the WMA Strategic Plan 2026-2030 with participation of all participants. Ten years ago, IAPO joined the ICN-International Council of Nurses, the International Hospital Federation, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), the World Medical Association, and IFPMA to establish the International Consensus Framework for ethical collaboration in health, a tool aiming at improving patient outcomes through ethical collaboration. The World Medical Association General Assembly is underway in Helsinki, hosted by Suomen Lääkäriliitto, the Finnish Medical Association. Physicians leaders of today and tomorrow, from more than 50 countries, are participating this week. The preliminary meeting of the 227th WMA Council Session has been followed by Finance and Planning Committee, Medical Ethics Committee and the Socio-Medical Affairs Committee. Very good discussions on the issues facing the medical profession today, such as medical ethics, global health workforce issues and climate change and more. Today we mark Global Ethics Day by bringing your attention to an article celebrating a decade of the International Consensus Framework to foster ethical collaboration. FIP has contributed to this piece, published in Health Policy Watch, along with the International Alliance of Patients' Organizations (IAPO), the ICN-International Council of Nurses, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations, the International Hospital Federation and the World Medical Association. The framework was established to: put patients first, support ethical research and innovation, ensure independence and ethical conduct, and promote transparency and accountability.
