Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer

We seek to hire a Legal Counsel / Compliance Officer – Alibaba Cloud who will be a key member of the growing international legal and compliance team supporting Alibaba Cloud’s rapid expansion around the world. Alibaba Cloud now has data centers in Singapore, US, UK, Germany, Australia, UAE (Dubai), Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, China (both mainland China and Hong Kong). The successful candidate will be based in Paris with occasional business travels. Primary responsibilities and key requirements are listed below:

Primary Responsibilities

1. Advise on legal aspects of Alibaba Cloud’s international expansion, key focus is on ensuring compliance and leading compliance projects as well as commercial contract and negotiation support in Europe and the Americas.

2. Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of new business models and strategies, business operations and marketing activities.

3. Negotiate, draft and review contracts and commercial agreements.

4. Ideally also support in data and security compliance operation, for example personal data protection, cybersecurity risks management, security compliance implementation and certification.

5. Research local laws and regulations and manage outside counsel.

Key Requirements

1. Legal qualification from an international jurisdiction, and/or qualified in other jurisdictions (e.g. PRC) but with solid experience in cross-border legal affairs.

2. 5-10 years post-qualification experience at a law firm and/or corporation. In-house experience is not required.

3. Technology sector experience or technology education background would be a plus; experience in data protection, cybersecurity risks mitigation, or familiarity with industry security standards and frameworks (such as SOC, NIST, C5, ISO27001), would also be a plus.

4. 4. Strong legal drafting skills in French and English. Knowledge of Chinese or other languages is helpful but not required.

5. Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure.

6. High integrity and sincere desire to collaborate with others.
